The Civil War was a very influential turning point in the history of the United States. The war not only strengthened the connection of the states, specifically between states in the north and south, but it also resulted in the end of the old way of life in the south, known as the old south. The way of life style in the Old South was loved by many, Rhett from Gone With the Wind being one of them. Rhett and his future wife, but current friend Scarlett were fleeing Atlanta after an attack from the north when Rhett told Scarlett that she was witnessing the end of the Old South. Rhett is truly speaking the truth in this scene.
The Civil war was the greatest yet the deadliest war in history but this war was fought for everyone to be free. The United States had many conflicts within causing it to be opposition and segregation among the people. “The Civil War reduced sectional antagonism and made the United States truly one nation in many different ways”. The war also helped Americans realize there was betters ways to solve contrast between the two states.This war can also be called the war of rebellion. It brought about the Emancipation Proclamation which freed the slaves, It brought the northern and southern states together,it also states that federal laws are more important than state laws.
The Civil War, a cause not only for the end of slavery, but to bring back the Confederacy as well. Many thought that simply because the North had a clear advantage over the South, such as population or weaponry, the war would end quickly, people picnicked on the first battles of war, watching the battles, but they didn’t fully realize how deadly new weapons had evolved. A single shot could easily kill anyone within range. People soon found how effective technology had become, and how well the South could fight back. Throughout the earlier years of the war the Confederates won nearly all their major battles, such as the very first battle at Fort Sumter, or the following one at Bull Run.
Compromises considering this issue were made and overturned for many years. The election that made Abraham Lincoln president was the last straw. Some southern slave states succeeded from the Union. They wanted to keep their slaves and be able to take them as their property in to the new territories. The new territories were
In Lincoln 's inaugural speech he said "This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing Government, they can exercise their 'constitutional ' right of amending it or they are 'revolutionary ' right to dismember or overthrow it"(Abraham Lincoln 's First Inaugural Address). The 12th of April 1861, the Civil War began. There were many conflicts between the two sides. Many believe it was a fight for the rights and freedom of slaves, so what was the main cause of the Civil War was the issue of states rights and the preservation of the Union than rather than the issue of slavery.
The Reconstruction Era of American history was plagued by many problems. One of the most important problems being the recently released from slavery Freedmen. Freedmen were in a tricky situation in which they had just been released from their owner and had nowhere to go, but the Federal Government made many successful attempts to help them out. The Government helped alleviate all the problems Freedmen had from their finances to basic needs and rights, and in doing so, made the period of reconstruction more helpful than harmful for Freedmen. The events of reconstruction were helpful to freedmen as they were not only freed from slavery, they were given rights directly from the federal government.
About forty slaves, and Denmark Vasey were executed while the others were sold out of the state. There was also good news for those that were anti-slavery. For instance, Pennsylvania passed an anti-kidnapping law so that the free blacks couldn 't be found and sold into slavery. Liberia and Mexico became refuges for the slaves escaping from America. In 1827, Texas required that one tenth of any slaves inherited to be freed but also allowed slaves to be sold.
For the first time, African-American men across the country were legally permitted to vote. It was a significant step in the journey toward racial equality. The amendment was ratified in 1870, as the U.S. was struggling to recover from the Civil War. The war had destroyed its unity, ruined its economy, and killed well over one million people. The Fifteenth Amendment was the third of the Reconstruction Amendments.
One important person is, Abraham Lincoln, who helped end slavery in, 1863, by issuing his memorable Emancipation Proclamation that declared freedom of slaves within the Confederacy. This particular event has changed the lives of many slaves whom lived throughout any state in the United States. Although it took time to declare freedom for slaves, now many years later, slaves are free to become anyone they want to be. Not only did this event affect the lives of slaves, but it affected the lives of everyone living in the United States because now our society has a diverse culture. Therefore, allowing a person to love who they want, whether the person is of a different ethnicity.
They were supported by urban workers, westerners, and southerners who did not own slaves. Whigs however supported nationalism, and the government funding of what was considered “internal improvements” by them. The party eventually collapse due to shifting ideologies from The Compromise of 1850, as well as members splitting apart to from the Republican Party. A major issue at this time was states rights vs. that of national government as well as the issue of slavery in the Whigs party. The third political era was that of the Democrats and the Republicans in which they were evenly matched.
