When the word college pops up in a high school seniors head, they immediately start to panic. The thoughts of how far away they should go, should they even go away, and which school is the best for them often linger through their thoughts as National Decision Day approaches. Most students have it figured out where they want to go and what they want to do, but there are a handful of them that don’t know if college is the right choice for them and for the career that they want to pursue. Even though getting an education after high school is suggested, there are many factors that play into whether someone should go to college or not. When looking at what college is right for someone, they need to consider the financial situation of their household. Scholarships are big right now and a lot of people are receiving full rides for their academic achievements. But, if someone cannot afford the college they wish to attend, they need to figure out student loans and if they can work it out. Being knee-deep in college loans after graduating isn’t always the smartest thing to do. The courses are sometimes rigorous and many times very time consuming. When deciding whether to go to college or not, someone needs to consider if they will put in the hard work and dedication that needs to be put in in order to achieve the grades that they want. According to “A’s for Everyone!” by Alicia C. Shepard, “Many students believe that simply working hard--though not necessarily doing excellent work--entitles them to an A” (Shepard418). If someone were deciding to go to college just to party and expects to still have good grades, they need a reality check and need to reconsider whether or not they should attend. Having fun and getting good grades is possible, you just need to learn how to manage your time
