Once upon a time, a Grinch had stolen christmas from the town of Whoville. The Grinch stole christmas to make the town suffer, but the Grinch found out maybe he misinterpreted Christmas. The Grinch thought Christmas just meant giving presents to each other and singing songs, so he decided to steal the presents and throw them into the abyss. At dawn the Grinch expects to hear the cries to Whoville, but The Grinch hear singing(Seuss). The Grinch figures out maybe Christmas does not mean just giving presents and feasting, maybe Christmas means spending time with family. In “A Christmas Carol” Ebenezer Scrooge, a grumpy old man who only cares about money gets visited by a ghost of his business partner to help Scrooge enjoy Christmas(O'connor). From the visit of his business partner and other Christmas Ghost with him, Scrooge find for the first time in his life Friends and family to celebrate Christmas with. Second of all the Grinch discover the act of giving from Scrooge. In the movie the Scrooge started to help out the less unfortunate with his money. Scrooge helped Tiny Tim, the son of Bob Cratchit, with polio(Goat). The Scrooge paid for the vaccination of polio for Tiny Tim. The Scrooge learned money does not solve all the problems and money does not buy joy. The Scrooge learned not to rely solely on money for happiness. Scrooge broke out of his shell of greediness. Finally Christmas helped Ebenezer Scrooge learn about compassion(Centi). Scrooge learned having compassion for people actually made him feel weird inside. Scrooge we see a man who is transformed from a greedy, selfish miser into a generous and good-natured character by the end. In the beginning of the story Scrooge wanted annihilation to do with Christmas. He rejects all Christmas cheer from everyone he meets. Although on Christmas Eve his worker Bob Cratchit asked if he could take Christmas Day off and spend time with his family, but Scrooge said if he didn’t show up on Christmas morning he wasn’t going to get paid.

It narrates a fictional story of a man named Ebenezer Scrooge who is visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future in order to convince him to change his poor outlook on life and his greed. The themes of A Christmas Carol overlap with Gospel teachings, such as the dangers of greed and how the poor should be treated with generosity. The theme of greed is represented in A Christmas Carol through the main character, Scrooge.
“Uncle Scrooge,” it was Tiny Tim, “I found your wallet but why must you look so sad?” Scrooge explained how he had gotten everyone a gift except for Tiny Tim and how he forgot to pick up the dollhouse which was the gift for Tiny Tim and just how awful he felt. As if this didn’t mean anything everyone started to giggle. So when Bob Cratchit and Fred began to talk they reminded Scrooge that Christmas was not about the gifts but spending your holiday with your loved ones and gave Scrooge a reassuring pat on the back. Before the night came to a close Tiny Tim nor any of the guests took their gift instead they all went out to the village and gave the boxes of chocolate to the poor without family with the kind words

Ebenezer Scrooge is initially portrayed as a grumpy man who only thinks of money and himself. Scrooge is full of hate for those beneath him and takes pride in his wealth. After being visited by the three Ghosts, Ebenezer turns his life around and becomes full of charity, humility, and detachment of money and possessions. Ebenezer Scrooge learns valuable lessons from the Ghosts, changes his ways, and becomes a more virtuous person.

I interpreted the poem The Grinch Who Stole Christmas using archetypal criticism. The archetypal school of thought is a means of interpreting text by focusing on recurring myths and symbols that relate to social context. After analyzing using this school of thought I have come to a conclusion that the meaning of this poem is that Good will always triumph over evil. Throughout the poem it was evident that the Grinch detested Christmas for no apparent reason.
Dr. Seuss’ poem, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” can be analyzed using many different schools of criticism, however, the psychoanalytical school of criticism holds allows us to truly understand the “true meaning” behind the poem. The poem begins with a socially isolated character, the Grinch, who loathes Christmas and wishes to completely destroy it. He wants to completely eliminate Christmas from “Whoville.” The Grinch gets irritated whenever when he hears the singing from the children and sees families feasting together in the holiday season. However, as the poem progress, the Grinch starts to feel the love and happiness involved with Christmas and ends up correcting his wrongdoings to ultimately enjoy Christmas with the “Whos.”
