Everybody who reads this knows the pressure and expectations for something and not being able to do it. “All those eyes on me-the town, the whole universe-and I couldn't risk the embarrassment.” (57) He feels the guilt and pressures of everybody around him. When thinking about bystanders and upstanders and talking about the subject in many situations, people always tell you that they would be upstanders no matter what but the fact of the matter is that when you are in the situation no matter who you are many would chose to stay quiet. Why is this? Aren’t we supposed to be good people? The matter is that many don't intervene due to the consequences it can lead to their families, their cultural background leading to what they were taught and the risk they are putting upon themselves. Many people chose to be bystanders in risky situations due to the fact that it leads to their family suffering the consequences.
Fear is strong and manipulative, it can cause individuals to do the wrong things for their own safety and protection. In other words; souls lie for their own well being and secureness. The Crucible has an exceeding amount of lies throughout the entire book followed by characters. However most of the lies are a result from conflicts with one of the main characters who is the reason for the whole chaos; Abigail. A popular saying, “One lie leads to another”, this saying describes The Crucible sufficiently, the book consists of lies, that lead another and another, eventually by the end of the book families and relationships are torn apart.
Many people have told lies and been told lies ,however the biggest lie of all is lying to oneself. Everyone has been told to share the truth because even though the truth will hurt others now, a carried out lie will hurt them a lot more in the future. Also, when my story began, it had to do with the biggest decision that could affect my image or my very life. The decision to tell people the truth or just role with the bunch of lies were my only options. So, I decided to tell people the truth. A big cause for hope in the data is that it seemed many people are torn on what they believe and why they believe it. Many people in this issue seem to be, undecided on their beliefs. A problematic part of my debate, is that the arguments for NSA surveillance seem to be very limited. The affirmative side, has many more arguments to pull from to convince the audience. This means that my arguments, limited in nature will have to be very effective when I give them.
