There is a huge number of female singers that have both qualities of voice and look that enabled them to become worldwide famous, but only few of them have reached the diva’s aura. It’s not necessarily if the female singer has a huge amount of fans that she’s a diva, so what are the characteristics that distinguish a diva from other female singers? In addition to maintaining an excellent voice, an appealing look and a huge fan base, there is something more unique about the divas, as Sir Charles Mackerras quoted: “...There has to be something unusual as well as competent about a diva, something compelling about her personality, whether you like it or not, whether it be charming or repellent… or both at the same time”. Whitney Elizabeth Houston, born on 9th August 1963, in Newark, New jersey. The daughter of gospel star Cissy Houston, and the goddaughter of soul legend diva Aretha Franklin. She started her first singing experience in the choir at her church, The New Hope Baptist Church in Newark. After graduating, she continued to model and sing, backing up Lou Rawls and Chaka Khan. When she was 19, Whitney Houston was discovered in a nightclub by the renowned Clive Davis of Arista Records, who signed her immediately and took the helm of her career as she navigated from gospel to pop stardom. Her debut album “Whitney Houston” became the biggest-selling album by a debut artist. Several hit singles, including 'Saving All My Love For You', 'How Will I Know', 'You Give Good Love', and 'The Greatest Love of All', were released from the album, setting her up for a Beatles-beating seven consecutive US number ones. In an interview with Robin Roberts bobby said that just before the two were married in 1992 he walked in to see his bride and found her hunched over a bureau snorting a line of cocaine. “That was the first time I had actually saw her do drugs,” Bobby told Roberts. Bobby said that this scene of his wife doing cocaine made want to love her and protect her even more. But in their marriage life, both were on drugs. They was troubled a lot a relative told PEOPLE “They fought like cats and dogs. They would fight about what to eat for dinner, about who wasn’t cleaning out the dishwasher. Stupid things. But they were always yelling.” After all the drugs and smoking, she lost her voice, in a live performance where she performed ‘I Will Always Love You’ her voice was damaged. After been asked why her voice got worse her singing coach said to DailyMail’s reporter :” It was her extra-curricular activities. The vocal mechanism is made up of skin tissue and muscle. It doesn’t do well when it’s abused by smoke . . . and other substances.” Because of her troubled life Whitney took her life in Beverly Hilton hotel where a Grammy party was being held by Clive Davis.
