Abigail states, “She makes me drink blood.” in order to get Tituba in trouble. Act 1, line 410. Abigail stated that Tituba forced her to drink blood. This is Abigail's way of blaming Tituba for her own crimes. Tituba was only trying to help her have some fun by singing and dancing. However, Abigail took things too far trying to Manifest John Proctor's love. Since Abigail blamed Tituba, she got in trouble and was forced to love and accept God into her life. After Tituba gives herself to god, Abigail says that she wants to be enlightened as well. She then started to accuse many girls of being with the devil. Betty then suddenly woke up and joined Abigail in blaming the girls. “ I saw Sarah Good with the devil!I saw Goody Osborn with the devil!I saw Goody Proctor with the devil!” Act 1, line 410. Abigail claims that she saw Sarah Good, Goody Osborn, And Goody Proctor with the Devil. She wanted all of them to be accused of practicing witchcraft because of their wrongdoings. She ended up getting the girls accused of witchcraft by only saying that she saw them with the devil. At this point in the trials. John is angry and annoyed with Abigail's lies and decides that he would admit to adultery. This gets his
However, the girls in that group were not the only figures responsible for the deaths of the alleged “witches”. Abigail Williams, John Proctor, and Deputy Danforth all share the most liability for those deaths. In the Crucible, Abigail Williams and her group of girls are the main “witnesses” of all the witch trials. As the leader of their group, Abigail Williams was the initiator of the trials.
Abigail Williams, It is all her fault with her having the affair with John Proctor, It is not all John's fault that the afrie happen it's Abigail's fault that it happen. Abby is the reason that John slept with her, she seduced him into cheating on his wife with her. If Abby did not work for John and goodly Proctor want happen wouldn't of happen to the town and everything would be fine. Her Affair with John, and her love for John is a big reason why I blame her for everything that happens to the town of Salem. ”Why the Williams girl charge her”(Millar 171).
She and the other girls were trying to find a way out of trouble. They began to start accusing people of witchcraft. Abigail Williams saw this as a golden opportunity to accuse Elizabeth Proctor of witchcraft. Once Elizabeth Proctor was convicted, she would most likely be killed. Then Abigail would have John Proctor all for herself.
They had an affair and that made Abigail fall in love but John was still together with his wife. So she developed a hatred for John and became jealous of Abigail and wanted revenge for both of them. So she accused John of being a witch and she told everyone in the town that they had an affair at his trial for his character. This led to a chain reaction throughout the town having everyone think he’s a witch and them accusing him of a number of things. “She thinks to dance with me on my wife’s grave
Abigail says that Tituba gave them blood to drink to make Tituba confess. In this last section, I think Abigail told on Tituba to use her as a cover up so she wouldn’t be getting into right then. Last, Stealing from her uncle and skipping town to run away from the charge and guilt. ”
Despite Abigail doing this to save herself from being hanged, she ended up causing Tituba, an innocent person, to be sentenced and put to death. "She comes to me every night to go and drink blood" (Act II, Pg. 44) This quote comes right after Abigail had said that Tituba cursed her with spirits while she was in church. In this quote, Abigail tries to argue that not only did Tituba send spirits to Abigail, but she also made her and the girls drink blood every night and conjured spirits. With Abigail’s multiple instances of scapegoating people like Tituba, she led many innocent people to their deaths, all just to save her own self.
The society came to the conclusion that it was witchcraft. Abigail is questioned by her love, John Proctor, about the witchcraft. She reminds John Proctor of their affair, but John does not love her anymore and only thinks of her softly from time to time. Abigail
While she was working for the Proctors Elizabeth was to sick and she only cared about herself and John seduced her and taught her bad habits for later in life. Even though she did not have good role models she still had the choice to tell the truth and not have blamed other people in the town to help support her lie. In conclusion, Abigail Williams is the one to blame for the deaths even though she has not had any good role models because she had more than one chance to tell the truth.
(Act 1) Since Tituba is a slave, Abigail knows she has power over her and that people won't believe a slave over her. Just incase Tituba was not enough of
Some people might infer in how she was the one who brought the kids to the woods to dance. Although this point seem as it is what caused the chaos, it was mostly when Abigail scared the girls off by drinking he chicken’s blood. Abigail had blamed Tituba by saying that Tituba would force her to drink the blood but Abigail has actually done it by herself. Abigail said “she makes me drink blood”(1109). She says that to save herself from a whipping but it only causes chaos throughout Salem.
She realizes that she can lie and say that Proctor was working with the devil. She confesses that she was forced by Proctor to do things for the Devil and she got out of trouble. This shows how people will lie and confess to things they didn’t do to protect themselves. In the end of the first act, Abigail gets in trouble for doing witchcraft in the woods. She is already facing rumors from Goody Proctor that she was soiled and working with the devil.
Even knowing the weakness of Mary, Abigail screamed accusations : "Oh, Mary, this is a black art to change your shape. No, I cannot, I cannot stop my mouth; it's God's work I do. "(Act 3, Pg.115). Mary escapes by accusing John, which leads to his conviction and hanging, ironically ruining Abby's
I believe she means to murder”. John says this because he knows Abigail’s true intention, and he knows she is seeking revenge. Another quote that supports her flaw is “Goody Proctor always keeps poppets”. This is Abigail’s attempt to blame Goody Proctor for the wound to her stomach. Vengeance is a terrible characteristic to have, and Abigail has obtained this characteristic.
Abigail forces the girls of Salem to dance in the woods with her to help conjure spirits and make the charm to kill Goody Proctor. Abigail threatens the girls right after Betty took fright by saying, “let either of you breathe a word or the edge of a word about the other things and I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you.” (Miller, 144). Later on as the trials prolong Mary Warren turns on Abby and is telling the court that she lied. When Abigail then accuses Mary of witchcraft she turns back to Abby and obeys her once again.
Abigail accused many innocent people of witchcraft and she also told lies about the people she thought were witches. She made her accusations very believable for the judges to put innocent people to death. In conclusion, I say Abigail Williams was the most to blame for the events of the Salem Witch Trails. Her character flaws of dishonesty, envy, and lust costed many innocent people their lives and left survivors of the Salem Witch Trails wretched
