Andrew Jackson was the seventh president of the United States, and during his term many people thought of him as either a hero or a villain. He was thought of by many as the first controversial president, because he was the first president to come from the frontier and was the first to be a self-made man. The frontier was the newest part of the United States and before Jackson all six previous presidents had either come from Virginia or Massachusetts. He was not born into wealth and he had to work for what he wanted. People saw this as a danger which made many of the northern states not want to vote for him. Jackson is well known for his part in the Trail of Tears and the things he did were quite villainous. When the people from Georgia began to find gold they started to move the Cherokee out, so the Indians decided to bring their case to court. It went all the way up to the supreme court and they ruled in favor of the Cherokee Indians, which allowed them to stay on their land. Jackson didn't want the Cherokee to stay and he wanted the gold, so he said that the people from Georgia could move them out. This led to the events of the Trail of Tears where thousands of Native Americans were forced to leave their homes so they could begin to find gold. Personally this is one of Jackson's lowest moments because he moved people from their homes even though they had every right to be there. Jackson did do good work with the national banks not getting as much power and he promoted democracy well because of where he was from and it showed that anyone can do what they want if they have the right support and if they work hard for it. I think Jackson was a good president and he promoted democracy well but the means don't justify the ends in this
