In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Lady Macbeth was inoculated Macbeth’s manhood. Macbeth ended up losing everything that he gained from murdering the rightful king. The reason why he lost it all was because Lady Macbeth each time she has seen her husband seemed not to want to kill the king she would just keep insulting his manhood. Lady Macbeth is absolutely responsible Macbeth’s downfall.
The first reason why Lady Macbeth is the downfall is because Lady Macbeth inoculated Macbeth each time he seemed not to want to kill Duncan. Lady Macbeth kept taking away his manhood and making him feel more like a baby. In the play Lady Macbeth says “My hands are now the same color as yours, but I would be ashamed if my heart were as white. (knocking) I hear a knocking at the south gate. Let’s return to our bedroom. A little water will clean up the evidence of our deed. How easy it will be then! Your firmness has deserted you. (knocking) More knocking. Put your robe on, so that if we are called, we won’t seem to have been up. Don’t get lost in depressing thoughts. ” (ii ii 80-88). In the quote above, from the play Macbeth, Lady Macbeth says her hands are now the same color as Macbeth’s because she put blood on the guards' faces. Lady Macbeth goes on to say she would be ashamed if her heart was ever as white has his.

One of the quotes from Lady Macbeth sleep acting was when she was saying “ Wash your hands. Put on your nightgown. Don’t look so pale! I tell you once again-Banquo’s buried. He cannot come out of his grave” (v i 58-60). This shows you that Lady Macbeth can’t handle the fact that she was part of Banquo’s
Macbeth takes charge and does not have any second thoughts about killing Banquo, he has been completely overcome with
Some might argue that Lady Macbeth was the cause of Macbeth’s downfall. However, Macbeth said in a aside, “Stars, hide your fires/ Let not light see my black and deep desires” (1.4.57-58).This quote shows how Macbeth didn’t want others to see his true intention. Macbeth’s deep desires were to gain more power, which shows an example of him being power- hungry. Later in the play, Macbeth hallucinates a dagger, for an example, “Is this a dagger which I see before me/ The handle toward my hand?”
Admittedly, some readers believe that Macbeth is to blame for his downfall by the virtue of being foolish, however, Lady Macbeth is shown to be a manipulative woman who can easily persuade Macbeth. While it may be true that Macbeth is foolish enough to believe that assassinating the King “may become a man” (1.7.51), yet he is not assured that the murder will not contribute to anything satisfying. Before accepting Lady Macbeth’s plan, Macbeth contemplates the reasons why it is terrible to murder King Duncan. Lady Macbeth then persuades her husband by questioning “[his] love” (1.7.43) towards her and questions if “[he is] afeard” (1.7.43), which led him to approve Lady Macbeth’s offer. Lady Macbeth even jeers her husband’s masculinity by stating,
Shakespeare employs blood to accentuate how guilt ultimately drives Lady Macbeth’s implied suicide. Between Macbeth receiving the initial prophecy and the death of Banquo, Lady Macbeth does not actively exhibit any remorseful qualities, such as guilt or regret. However, before the final battle, she subconsciously reveals her fears, acting and speaking in her sleep. Holding a taper, she repeats an “accustomed action” of “washing her hands”; she agonizes that her “hands [will] ne’er be clean” no matter what “perfumes of Arabia” she uses (Shakespeare 5.1.24-25, 5.1.37, 5.1.43). Contrary to the once ambitious and assertive character, Lady Macbeth is now plagued by anguish; she stresses that the blood of Duncan, Banquo, and Macduff’s family will never fully wash out–she is unable to cleanse her hands.
Macbeth's suspicions towards Banquo make him decide that he is an obstacle to staying in power, thus he decides to hire murderers and manipulate them into thinking that Banquo “held you so under fortunes…had been out innocent self”(Shakespeare 3.1.83-86). Macbeth persuades the murderers that Banquo is the root of all of their problems and that he must die. This shows how he chose power over his best friend. Lastly, Macbeth's ambition makes him overly gullible and easily manipulated. Lady Macbeth’s need for power makes her put Macbeth's feelings aside and manipulates him into killing King Duncan, along with making other bad decisions, by questioning his manhood, and telling him to “Be…more than man”… “I had given suck”(Shakespeare 1.7.58-62).
Macbeth even turns to killing his best friend Banquo simply because he believes that he is onto him. Lady Macbeth has her own experience with this “wash your hands, put on your nightgown, look not so pale, I tell

Often times, people go through rises and downfalls in their lives that they themselves are responsible for. In Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, both main characters, Lady Macbeth and Macbeth, himself, are responsible for the downfall of Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is responsible for the tragedy because she convinces and manipulates Macbeth into doing the deed. Macbeth puts tries Macbeth manhood. The plot against Banquo could be argued to be an unjustified murder simply because of the irrational fear Macbeth had for his position as King. Lady Macbeth displays a distinction from that of herself from the beginning of the play by feeling guilty for the crimes that she and her husband had committed. She demonstrates her guilty conscience on page 76 when she states, “Here’s the smell of the blood still. All the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand” (Shakespeare). Lady Macbeth goes on a cleansing-craze when she starts to walk in her sleep.
There are many reasons a once great man may fall. Hubris leads Macbeth into taking far too courageous actions, his lack of questioning makes him blind, and his own actions lay the blame of the Murder solely on his shoulders. While most can agree Lady Macbeth had her part in persuading him, one cannot blame her for the act simply because she wanted it to happen. Macbeth is the murderer, his wife didn't make one.
Macbeth started off as a valiant and courageous soldier, who would do anything for the king. By the end of the play, Macbeth was a tyrant and a horrible leader who killed those who trusted him to maintain the throne. It takes many factors to take a strong man and transform him into an evil monster. Macbeth’s downfall was caused by the deception and temptation of the witches and their prophecies, Lady Macbeth’s greed and aspirations for her husband to be king, and Macbeth’s own greed, jealousy and ambition.
