Abigail Williams and the girls is responsible for the deaths of the people who were wrongly convicted and hanged. Also Danforth has some of the blame for this situation as well. However, the girls are the ones who started this situation because the book explains, “Mr. Parris said, “That my daughter and my niece I discovered dancing like heathen in the forest,” (6). In Salem, the rules are to not go through the woods and dances. Now people think that they are doing witchcraft. People believes it now because Betty Parris will not wake up. Mr. Parris explains, “Then why can’t she not move herself since midnight? This child is desperate,” (8). Since Betty Parris can not wake up, there is rumors going on that Mr. Parris has witchcrafts in his house. All the girls are scared of Abigail Williams because of what she did in the forest. Betty Parris exclaims, “You drank blood, Abby! You didn’t tell him that,” (17). Abigail drank blood from a chicken to kill Elizabeth Proctor. Also the girls are scared of Abigail because she said to Betty, “I can make you wish you had never seen the sun go down,” …show more content…
He is the blame for Mr. Giles’s death. Mr. Gale told Danforth about someone telling him about Putnam. Then Mr. Giles is convicted of the contempt of the court. Giles said, “This is a hearing; you cannot clap me for contempt of a hearing,” (93). After, Mr. Giles is place on the ground with weights on him until he tells the court the name. However, Mr. Giles did not and he dies. Danforth also got a confession from Proctor but it was not enough for him. He ask for Proctor to write his name on his confession. Proctor says, “You will not use me! I am no Sarah Good or Tituba, I am John Proctor! You will not use me! It is no part salvation that you should use me,” (137). Even though, Danforth knows that John Proctor is innocent, he still made the people put John to his
How could one girl be responsible for the imprisonment and execution of innocent people? By lying just like Abigail Williams did so she would not get punished for what she did. All Abigail wanted to do was to save herself from getting in trouble. The only way she could save herself was to lie her way out of the situation, hurt other people, or even make her so called friends go along with her twisted lies. That is exactly what happened too.
Abigail Williams, It is all her fault with her having the affair with John Proctor, It is not all John's fault that the afrie happen it's Abigail's fault that it happen. Abby is the reason that John slept with her, she seduced him into cheating on his wife with her. If Abby did not work for John and goodly Proctor want happen wouldn't of happen to the town and everything would be fine. Her Affair with John, and her love for John is a big reason why I blame her for everything that happens to the town of Salem. ”Why the Williams girl charge her”(Millar 171).
Act Three # 8. “I know not. A wind, a cold wind, has come.” (Abigail) Abigail is signaling the girls to make Mary Warren look guilty. The girls start to scream and pretend that the spirit of Mary Warren was attacking them.
The play ‘’The Crucible’’ by Arthur Miller displays the importance of one taking responsibility for one’s action. It expresses in great detail how the inability of one person to stand up to their own mistakes can lead to deadly circumstances. Also just how much lies, deceit and pure evil can result in such terrible situations. In this play, Abigail Williams is very much to blame for many tragic deaths which is demonstrated by her many cruel actions, reminding the audience that one person can destroy an entire society. Abigail’s choice to cast a spell to kill Goody Proctor demonstrates her irrational love for Proctor which leads to the demise of the community.
Now hear it, Goody Nurse! Say on, Mr, Proctor. Did you bind yourself to the Devil's service?” Danforth is trying to use Proctor’s confession to manipulate Rebecca into confessing as well which will save his reputation in Salem and prevent him from being forced to hang both John and Rebecca which will lead to the people of Salem starting a riot. Danforth was hoping Proctor’s actions will affect Rebecca’s actions because they are placed in the same situation and they understand what one another feels.
I am no Sarah Good or Tituba, I am John Proctor! You will not use me! It is no part of salvation that you should use me!” (1356). The dignity Proctor has for his name throughout the village proves that he will under no circumstances be used as an example to others.
I disagree with Winona Ryder when she says Abigail Williams isn't the villain of “The Crucible.” To begin with, she is the villain because she does everything for herself and would sacrifice someone else quickly and it wouldn't affect her. Specifically because she lied about John Proctor’s wife to try and get John. Abigail lying on John’s wife makes her seem bad because Elizabeth got her in trouble and got John executed to try and get John to like her. Another, reason I believe that is she threatened the girls lives if they spoke about them dancing in the woods.
In the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller was a chaos between the Salem town and witchcraft. This play took place during the witch trails in Salem. Which the witch trials were a bunch of hearings and prostitutions of people accused of witchcraft in Salem, Massachusetts in the spring of the year 1962. Abigail Williams was responsible for witchcraft because she was a liar, a manipulator, and an accuser. Abigail Williams is a seventeen-year-old girl.
Which either way they were but John Proctor didn’t want it to happen under his arms. Him confessing made him feel empowered over the court and people of his town. He was notorious for running the town and being the leader but as he confesses, that was all brought down. “DANFORTH: Why?
Abigail Williams is not your typical teenage girl. She is a girl that will drink blood to kill someone, accuse people of witchcraft, and have a affair. By looking at The Crucible, one can see that Abigail Williams develops the theme of reputation, which is important because people who fear losing their reputation spread hysteria. Protecting her reputation motivates Abigail Williams to accuse others of being a witch.
In The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, indirect characterization takes place throughout the play. Indirect characterization is where one’s speech, appearance, or actions show their true self, rather than verbally being said. Many characters take on this in the play, but one particular character of note, is Abigail Williams. Abigail Williams gives off that she’s innocent and non guilty of incidents that have occurred, but in reality, she’s scared of potential consequences because she is responsible for the Salem Witch Trials.
Have you ever blamed your younger sibling for something you did just so you would not get in trouble? That is what Abigail Williams did in The Crucible, yet she blamed the townspeople of Salem, Massachusetts resulting in a massive witchcraft hysteria. The witchcraft hysteria was a tremendous outbreak of multiple irrelevant trials causing 20 people to get hung. All these deaths and trials were all caused by one girl, Abigail Williams. I think Abigail Williams is responsible for the witchcraft hysteria because she lied about getting stabbed with a needle and she blamed everybody else for being a witch but herself.
This sparks rumors about witchcraft within the town of Salem, as everyone looks toward the girls involved in the forest incident for an answer. Abigail Williams, Parris’s niece and another girl who danced in the forest, begins to take
In Salem, Massachusetts a series of hearings and prosecutions started, commonly known as the Salem Witchcraft Trials. The witchcraft trials in Salem became a big concern after two-hundred innocent people were accused and twenty people were executed. Many people of Salem believed the court was just in accusing all these victims. A seldom amount of people went against the court in saying that the court was a fraud and that the decisions were biased being made. Abigail Williams held all the power in the court and determined who was “guilty” or not.
Abigail fuels this situation even more with her manipulative personality. She is a very selfish girl and she is willing to do whatever she can to protect herself. Abigail “smashes her across the face: Shut it! Now shut it!” Abigail smacks Betty when she starts remembering what happened and that Abigail drank blood to kill John Proctor’s wife.
