Could two brothers dislike each other so much that one would be responsible for the others death. In the short story “The Scarlet Ibis” the main character, Doodle, is killed during a terrible storm. Who is responsible for Doodle’s death? The narrator, Doodle’s older brother, is responsible for Doodle’s death for the following reasons: never accepted Doodle from the beginning, pushed Doodle too far, and acted out of selfishness. Doodle’s older brother disliked him from the day he was born.
The narrator is responsible for Doodle’s death because he overworked Doodle and expected
In page 56 it states “ I’m drowning, I thought, they’ve gone too far …” and “ I killed him,” he said slowly. “I killed that boy.” This shows where Johnny saved Ponyboy from drowning. Johnny is also a hero when he helped get the little kids get out of the church that was on fire. In the text it states “ He looked over his shoulder and saw that the door was blocked by the flames, then pushed open the window and tossed out the nearest kid.”
After Doodle dies alone in the storm, the reader grasps the “true love” the narrator had for him, which he never expressed toward his younger brother. In the closing paragraph, the narrator reveals his “true love” that was hidden inside him, “ I began to weep, and the tear-blurred vision in red before me looked very familiar. ‘Doodle!’ I screamed above the pounding storm and threw my body to the earth above his. For a long long time, it seemed forever, I lay there crying, sheltering my fallen scarlet ibis from the heresy of rain” (604).
When they finally get back to shore Doodle collapse and the narrator knows that he has failed. It begins to storm and they are running through the rain and Doodle begins to fall behind and the narrator says, “The knowledge that Doodle's and my plans had come to naught was bitter, and that streak of cruelty within me awakened. I ran as fast as I could, leaving him far behind
He was then tricked by ivy when she “proceeding” to fall into the hole but she quickly moved out of the way for him to fall instead and died. The third and last reason why Noah had played such a role that had madness is when he had skinned the animals. The animal should be killed by one of the elders but he would skinned them for fun and leaves them out on the in obvious places such as outside the school and on corn field. He had also killed and skinned the pig and hung them on the porches of the villagers when the wedding of ivy’s big sister kitty was interrupted by a couple of boys who were scared. The boys had seen the creature hanging the pigs on the

Just like how the white men “drove him to kill himself and know he will be buried like a dog”.(Pg.208) This means that he hanged himself because he could not go on with the white people taking over the village but no one wanting to do anything about it. So at night “He mourned for the clan, which he saw breaking up and falling apart.” (Pg.183) This is because of the white man having people changing their religions.
(“Poor Grendel’s had an accident,” I whisper. “ So may you all) (Gardner 174) Was the last words Grendel had to say in his last moments of life to the people watching him die. I believe that Grendel said this in the way of a curse to the people. Since Grendel meets the people at the beginning of the story after his bull attack, he believed that everyone was nice but after being with them for a short period of time he realizes that humans are evil. For example, in the book it states, “You’re all crazy,” I tried to yell, but it came out a moan.
Sometimes it 's the smallest decisions that can change your life forever. In "The Scarlet Ibis" James Hurst expresses the theme of death in his short. When he wrote "summer was dead and Autumn has not been born" it shows that there is a deep meaning to the story. Another example of death in his story is when Aunt Nicey said "red dead birds are bad luck" when the family sees the Scarlet Ibis fall out of a tree and die. It foreshadows the events that will happen in the storm because of brother leaving him behind.
Effects of Shared Humanity A human is a creature that goes through experiences such as emotions, choices , relationships, losses, survival, and moral dilemmas. These are apart of a concept known as Shared Humanity. The things everybody has in common affect how a person would see the world around them.
