In the novel Golding has wrote about how a group of british boys crashed on a plane and landed on a island where there are no adults,just little british boys stranded on a island .In the beginning one of the boys Ralph was the responsible leader where he knew what to do an how to manage. But of course there was this one cureles jealous boy that wanted to be a leader,the one in charge. Because of how ruthless and savage Jack was he took the fear that the boys had within them and used it against them to make them join his tribe which started the destruction of the island.
This shows the human nature of children and men when they are away from society and order for a long time. If they do not get what they want, then they will drive themselves crazy trying to fight and in turn, become savages, who are focused on killing and hunting. They are blinded by their anger and illusions that they forget about the real point, which is trying to escape from the island and their new goal is to kill each other off so they alone can be the chief of the island, but eventually all the boys will have to end up dying from natural causes or battles if they are not saved by a ship. Their morals are ruined and this leads to further chaos on the island. Once the chaos starts to happen on the island, Ralph also starts to rethink his idea of being chief.

From the onset of the novel, he is described as a “fair boy” with an “attractive appearance” (p7, 29). The author compares his stature as that of a boxer, “as far as width and heaviness of shoulders went, but there was a mildness about his mouth and eyes that proclaimed no devil” (p11). Ralph goes through a significant transformation of his character throughout the story. He is portrayed as a mature leader, confident, and charismatic. However, Ralph’s experiences cause his character to become more complex. There were many challenges that Ralph faced in the novel.
That is simply not true because if they did not get rescued, then Jack could have been responsible for yet another death and he would have burnt all of their food, resources, shelters, any supplies they would need, etc. and they would eventually die before being rescued. There would be nothing left on the island that is not burnt to a crisp. If Ralph was leader, then Simon nor Piggy would have been killed and there would still be some civilization on the island. The island would not be a mess and it would be somewhat organized.
I do believe that the main character changed by the end of the book, although some other characters changed a bit more, I still believe that Ralph changed drastically during the entire span of the book. Ralph, I believe that he starts out as an optimistic and calm boy, and with confidence in himself and that they are going to find a way off the island and a way back home. But, during chapter nine, a savage side shows while he joins the boys chanting about the pig. He only realizes, that later, he never should have participated in the cruel and horrifying act, because of how frightened the whole scene made him. The first member that fails is Ralph. Ralph is the man of the island. He is the guy everyone looks to for resolutions. Taking this into account, when he fails, there will be many more failures behind him. He is persistent in attempting to keep the group together, it simply does not work out because’s Jack’s need for power takes over.
In the Lord of The Flies the boys seem to lose some qualities when they are trying to survive, The main example of this is Jack. The things that i think they lose the most are sympathy, common sense and the ability to think clearly. First, the boys seem to lose their sympathy for other things and for themselves. At this point in the book Jack starts to try to take control over the group of kids, a piece of evidence that shows this would be, Ralph made a step forward and Jack smacked Piggy’s head.

Jack is very reckless and careless in his decisions. Ralph was the leader of the island, until Jack took control of the tribe and turned all of them into savages.
