Romeo, Juliet and the End of Love Who is to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet? Is the tragedy caused by a person or fate? Or maybe even love? Many claim that love builds unity and affection, but when taken to the extreme, like what Romeo did, it tends to end in tragedy and sadness. This is evidently demonstrated in Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet. While there is not just one person at fault for their deaths, Romeo is the most at fault for their deaths. Before Romeo goes to the party he said he had a premonition that something horrible is going to happen and even said "But tis no wit to go" (R+J 1.4 47). This quote is saying that it's not a good idea to go. But still, he chose to go to the party. Their deaths could have been avoided if he listened to himself. …show more content…

But the death of Romeo's friend was because he got in the way of their fight. So, Romeo decided to kill Tybalt to avenge his friend's death: "Is but a little way above our heads, staying for thine to keep company. Either thou, or I, or both must go with him" (3.1 128-130). Romeo killed Tybalt because Tybalt killed his friend. When Romeo killed Tybalt he ended up getting banished and sent away from Juliet. Their deaths could have been avoided if he calmed down instead of killing Juliet's cousin. To make matters worse, he decided to kill himself! He loved Juliet so much he couldn't think straight after she "died" and committed suicide. Romeo killed himself "thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die" (5.3 120). If Romeo decided to get more information or talk to Friar he would have realized that Juliet didn't actually die. Juliet was heartbroken and took her own life, because Romeo took his life.
