Ulysses S. Grant
I am going to do my report on Ulysses S. Grant. Did you know that Ulysses full name is Hiram Ulysses Grant but it got changed it to Ulysses Simpson Grant. He was born on April 27, 1822, in Point Pleasant which is in Ohio. When he was a young person he was extremely good with horses. Ulysses was a very timid and reserved, he was not out of the ordinary as a child. His father was a tanner and he hated the fact of working as a tanner. So his father entered him at the Military Academy at West Point when he was seventeen. When he entered the school an accounting error had him as Ulysses S. Grant, at this time his name was still Hiram. He did not want to be refused by the academy so he changed his name
Garrett Augustus Morgan, Sr. born on March 4, 1877 – July 27, 196) was an American inventor, businessman, and community leader. His most notable inventions were a smoke hood. notably used in a 1916 tunnel construction disaster rescue. Morgan also discovered and developed a chemical hair-processing and straightening solution. He created a successful company based on his hair product inventions along with a complete line of hair care products and became involved in the civic and political advancement of African Americans, especially in and around Cleveland, Ohio.
1732 a young boy named Francis Marion was born on a plantation in Berkley County, South Carolina. Parents not knowing Francis was going to be a famous military warrior. By the age of 15 Francis was hired on a ship as a pinhead bound to sail to the West Indies, but on his voyage his ship sank, with the crew members and him rowing away on a life boat. The crew spent one week on the sea without food or water, after a week they reached land. After Francis horrible voyage he begun to work at his family 's plantation and became the boss over the plantation.
Ulysses S. Grant took no part in the operation in the prison camps. He did not have anything to do with the creation of these camps let alone taking part in the operation, which he could not have done based on his rank early in the war. Most of the camps were built and officially started operating between the years 1861 and 1862, when Grant was off "displayed his military prowess early in the conflict. In 1861, he led 3,000 troops into his first major engagement.” This meaning he was busy in combat while other leaders when discussing the camps.
During his time in the Mexican-American War he had to lead troops into combat. Many people thought that Ulysses was brave for leading the troops into combat. He despised the war because he thought that if the Americans won, it would mainly be for the expansion of slavery. After four years he went back to marry Julia Dent. In six years Ulysses and Julia had four kids.

Ulysses S. Grant made many major contributions to the nation as a military strategist, a Civil War hero, supporting the rights of African Americans and serving as the 18th President. Grant attended military school and used his military strategies to help win the Civil War and contribute to ending slavery in the United States. As president, he supported the rights of African Americans, he passed acts to protect the freed slaves from being enslaved again, he allowed all citizens to vote in the 15th Amendment, and he guaranteed equal treatment of African Americans in public places. As the 18th president of the United States, he worked to increase trade between the United States and other countries and improve the nation’s relationships with countries
The eighteenth president of the United States is the most well-known Union General, but not considered a great president. Ulysses S. Grant was fantastic as a General in war, but as president, he was not the best; he had no political training and did not know much about being a president. Even with all this he was still elected to two terms and became a popular president during his time. Ulysses S. Grant was born on April 27, 1822, in Ohio, and was the first child of six. Ulysses went to Military West Point Academy because his family had little money, and the school offered free education if after they graduate they go into military service.

It was April 9, 1865 and Robert E. Lee is meeting Ulysses S. Grant in Appomattox Courthouse. The Civil War was winding down and the Confederate troops were dwindling. Their supplies were almost gone and almost all hope was lost for the Confederate States of America. The Union forces outnumbered them almost 3 to 1. Lee knew that now the best thing to do was to surrender his troops.
The American Civil War drastically intensified problems between the North and South, as well as disagreements among the citizens of those regions. The North had numerous advantages over the South during the war. They had a larger population which contributed to the amount of people serving and supporting the army. The majority of America’s profitable industries were within the Northern borders which helped the Union support and supply the army and residents. Due to the North having a far larger and better army and navy they were able to besiege the South.
When you look around at the world today, we have so many rights. People of all race and gender have the right to vote. However, this wasn’t always the case. In 1800s America, the fight over slavery was more prominent than it ever had been before. The civil war sparked the start of an evolution, an evolution led by none other than Ulysses S. Grant.
He grew up Georgetown, Ohio. Ulysses went to school at the Presbyterian Academy in Ripley, Ohio . Ulysses S. Grant’s birth name was Hiram Ulysses Grant. Grant was the oldest of 6 kids (including him) his siblings were: Samuel, Clara, Virginia, Orville, and Mary Grant. When he was a boy he showed great ability as a horseman. When Grant turned 17 he joined West Point military academy when being enrolled. An error listed him as Ulysses S. Grant, but he did not want to be rejected from the school so, he changed his name to Ulysses S. Grant.
John Fremont John Fremont was a good man. I want to start out with telling you, the readers, a little bit about him. So in 1833 he was a math teacher to the main cadets in the U.S Navy. He was born in Savannah Georgia on January 21, 1813. He lived a long successful life until he died on July 13, 1890 [age 77].
Grant was able to help Jefferson become human again because of the lessons he taught him. Grant was able to convince Jefferson that he was a part of the community, he showed him what it means to be a friend to someone else, and was able to teach him what it means to be a man. This allowed Jefferson to stand up to the white community and show them that their racism cannot degrade him and his community. He also made Miss Emma, Jefferson’s godmother, proud. Grant was not only able to make Jefferson a man again but also a hero to his community.
