A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life, all because of their families’ hatred of each other. Romeo and Juliet were in love, but their love could not be expressed because of their parents. While Lord and Lady Montague were also bad parents, the worst were the ones that raised Juliet, Lord and Lady Capulet. The Capulets abused their daughter, forced her to be in a relationship, and did not let her be happy. Romeo and Juliet would not have died if it were not for the parents of Juliet. A main reason Juliet’s parents are to blame is because of their hatred of the Montagues. Their conflict started a long time ago, and there was no real reason to nurture it. An example of this is when Tybalt and Benvolio fight at the beginning of the play, where Tybalt says, “peace? I hate the word as I hate hell, all Montagues, and thee” (i, i, 6, 71-72). Tybalt is a cousin of Juliet and Benvolio is a cousin of Romeo, so they don’t like each other just because of their families. Another example of this is when the servingman invites Romeo and Benvolio to the Capulet family’s party. “My master is the …show more content…
After Juliet says that she doesn’t want to get married to Paris, her father overreacts and starts calling her names. He says, “you baggage! You tallow face!/disobedient wretch” (citation). He then threatens to disown her, “get thee to church o’ Thursday or never after look me in the face” (citation). Juliet’s father screams at her, and distraught after getting yelled at she looks to her mother who says, “Talk not to me, for I’ll not speak a word. Do as thou wilt, for I have done with thee” (citation). Juliet’s parents’ response was terrible. If they instead talked to Juliet and let her explain, she would not have gone to Friar Lawrence and faked her death. This shows that Lord and Lady Capulet abused their daughter and did not handle the situation
The Families are the first to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. If it were not for their feud Romeo and Juliet could have been together happily. When Lady Capulet, Juliet’s mother, asks Juliet how she feels about marriage, Juliet says she doesn’t think of it but her mother goes on to tell her she needs to think about marriage (Doc B). The Capulets were pushing Juliet towards marriage, forgetting to listen to her, and in that, pushing her away.
Saying she can "An you be not, hang, beg, starve, die in the streets"(iii.v.193) if she decided to not marry paris. Which caused her to go to the friar and make the plan that ultimately got her and Romeo killed. If Juliet's parents allowed her to have a say in who she could marry, the story would have had a better outcome. There are arguments to my claim saying the capulets parents cared about peace in the city of verona. Like when lord capulet called off Tybalt when Romeo showed up at their party. "
In William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet there are many different forces to blame for the tragic deaths of Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet. Some might say the haste of the young lovers is to blame, others might say it was the feud between the Montague and Capulet families that brought on the tragic deaths. I believe that it was the Capulet parents that are to blame. I feel this because they tried forcing Juliet into an arranged marriage while she was grieving the death of her cousin, they threatened to disown her if she didn’t follow through with the marriage, and nobody, not even the nurse, was there to comfort her and give her the help and advice she needed. In Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare presents the idea that love
Even when you think parents are always on their child’s side, some will find ways to make it so they have complete control over their kids. Romeo and Juliet is a popular play written by William Shakespeare that tells the story of two star crossed lovers who are forbidden to marry each other and find a way to be together forever in a gruesome way. While some people might think that Friar Lawrence was responsible for the deaths of Juliet and Romeo, because he sent them on the wrong path every time he made a plan. Lord and Lady Capulet are really the ones that caused the deaths because they attempted to force Juliet to marry Paris or else she would have to live on the streets and they didn’t think to keep Juliet away from Friar Lawrence.
Juliet had just been yelled at by her father about marrying Paris or being kicked out and she begs her mother to delay the marriage or else she will kill herself. “Talk not to me, for I’ll not speak a word./Do as thou wilt, for I have done with thee”(Shakespeare 771 3.5.199-203). Lady Capulet just disowned her daughter for the most part. Lady Capulet says that she is done worrying about juliet and she will not say another word to her so she can do whatever she want, she does not care about her daughter because Juliet will not marry Paris. Juliet and her mother start to have a conversation before the party.
Seeing Juliet's desperation, Friar said,” Hold daughter, I do spy a kind of hope” (IV.i.68). The Friar did not want to tell Romeo and Juliets parents that they were married. So, instead of doing the right thing, he decided to come up with a plan that led to Romeo and Juliets death. Capulet should also be punished, since he was aggressive towards his daughter and contributed to Juliet's death without knowing it. Capulet was aggressive by giving Juliet an ultimatum and made her choose between two things that she could never choose between.
Some people may see Lady Capulet as a bad parent, but that it did not contribute to Juliet’s death. However, it is apparent that her bad parenting made it that Juliet had nobody to express her feelings to. Plus, Lady Capulet did not pay enough attention to Juliet to notice she needed some emotional support. Thus, Juliet may not have known that there was a better option than killing herself. Lord Capulet also contributed to Juliet’s death because he did not teach her how to control her emotions without going to drastic measures.
Romeo and Juliet is a tragic story between two lovers, part of rival families, so the love is forbidden. The end of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the two lovers both die. Although there are many factors for the two lover’s deaths, Which people were responsible for the two deaths? The person responsible for Romeo and Juliet death is Balthasar, the parents, and the lovers themselves.
In many instances when young love is present, parents can get in the way of relationships, which sometimes leads to the fall of young lovers. In Romeo and Juliet, By William Shakespeare, this example is shown when Romeo and Juliet fall in love despite the hundreds of years-long family feuds. While in the midst of all of this parents' relationship, the two lovers decide to live their lives recklessly and make impulsive decisions. While Juliet's parents aren't the only reason that the two lovers fell in the end, the relationship between Juliet and her parents outweighs other factors. First, they moved the wedding date up a day after the suspected grieving of Tybalt, secondly, her parents kept a feud that they didn't even know why they were funding which forced Juliet to marry Romeo in Secret, and lastly, they never saw the sign of Juliet's rebellious
Although The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is known as a classic, many people do not know whose to blame for the unfortunate event. The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is about a boy and a girl falling in love. However, they can not marry because Romeo’s and Juliet’s families do not like each other. Due to the fact, their families do not like each other Romeo and Juliet start sneaking around to see each other. Friar Laurence is most to blame for The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet because he wed the two, told Juliet to drink the potion which made her appear dead and kept the relationship between Romeo and Juliet a secret.
When she refused to marry Paris Lord Capulet exclaimed, “Hang thee, young baggage! disobedient wretch! I tell thee what: get thee to church o’ Thursday, or never after look me in the face: Speak not, reply not, do not answer me;” ( Romeo and Juliet pg 63). After Juliet was told that her father had planned a wedding for her she wasn’t sure what she should do. All she knew was that she was already married so she couldn’t marry Paris.
We all know the tragedies around Romeo and Juliet and this point. There are many debates about why all of these things happened and three people stood out, who may be responsible for these acts. Some are the Prince, Juliet's Parents, and Romeo. A quick overview if you don't know the story, there are two different houses, Capulet and Montague. A party is thrown in the house of the Capulets and Romeo and Mercutio go in and dance.
Therefore when the couple commits suicide, it is mainly the family’s fault that Romeo and Juliet thought they had to do that to be happy together in death and not in life. Such as when in the play, Capulet is verbally and physically abusing his daughter to marry a man in order to gain a higher status in court. In the scene, when Juliet protests on the matter of marrying Paris her father just tears into her like she is just the scum of the world. We can see that Juliet is being abused by her own father and does not have anywhere else to go other than to whom she loves, Romeo, in order to feel safe. Even though Romeo is not the best option for her, she does this anyway on the amends of rebelling against her father.
They do not realize that Juliet is already married. Juliet obviously does not want to marry him because she is in love with another man. Mr. Capulet explodes and starts calling Juliet foul names. He is obviously not fit for the dad position. No father should ever call his daughter cruel names.
Juliet was told by Lady Capulet that a happy day was coming. “Marry my child, early next Thursday”, is what Lady Capulet told Juliet; however, it did not bode well with Juliet. She immediately declined ------ which shows a shift in her personality, from being and obedient girl to being a rebellious one----- saying that she would not marry yet, and that when she would, “it will be Romeo… Rather than Paris.” This leads to Capulet’s impudent statement “unworthy as she is that we have wrought”, and his decision that if she did not marry Paris, he would throw her out of the house. His rash words led Juliet to make the hasty decision of getting a solution from Friar Lawrence and if he did not have an adequate solution, her own solution of killing herself.
