In Shakespeare’s story Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Juliet’s love story tragically ends in both of them dying. Their love is what lead them to their deaths, but the cause is debated. “Was it Romeo and Juliet’s themselves? Was it fate? Could it have been the rivalry between the Capulets and the Montagues?” these are a few of the assumed causes of Romeo and Juliet’s deaths, but the real causes of their deaths were Friar Laurence and the Nurse. In Romeo and Juliet Friar Laurence and the Nurse are portrayed as mentors for Romeo and Juliet. The Nurse and Friars Laurence are approached throughout the play for guidance and advice. Their guidance and advice however, ended up guiding Romeo and Juliet to their deaths. In Act 2 scene 3, when Romeo asks …show more content…
This situation could be used to try and disprove the claim that the Nurse and Friar Laurence are why Romeo and Juliet died, but when the Nurse told Juliet to leave her husband and marry Paris, Juliet lost trust in the Nurse and she felt that the Nurse’s suggestion was disrespectful towards her. Juliet’s feeling of distrust and disrespect from the Nurse is what caused her to turn to Friar Laurence and his risky plan. Friar Laurence’s plan, that Juliet was desperate enough to go through with, had risks that could’ve been prevented. The first way would be to not suggest the plan in the first place. If Friar never suggested for Juliet to fake her death, Romeo wouldn’t have killed himself and Juliet wouldn’t have killed herself because of romeo. In another situation Friar Laurence and Juliet go through with the plan, but instead of putting the weight of the plan on one letter that’s supposed to inform Romeo of the plan, he should’ve had a more reliable way to tell Romeo, like telling him in person. If Friar Laurence went and told Romeo about the plan in person, he would’ve been sure that Romeo knew the plan. If he knew he wouldn’t have made it back in time for Paris’s and Juliet’s wedding, he could’ve postponed the wedding because he’s the one that has to wed Paris and Juliet, and the wedding can go on without him.
Friar Laurence is to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because of his irresponsible actions and choices. Firstly, Friar Laurence was the one who agreed to marry Romeo and Juliet in secret. This choice made by Friar Laurence was the first event that contributed to their deaths.
In one respect I’ll thy assistant be, For this alliance may so happy prove To turn your households’ rancor to pure love.” Friar Laurence’s poor advice in advising marriage eventually results in the death of Romeo and Juliet. Furthermore, the Nurse also plays a huge role in the death of Romeo and Juliet. When Romeo kills Tybalt in revenge for Mercutio's life, Juliet reports the scene back to the Nurse. Later, Prince Capulet suggests that Juliet should marry Paris.
“A pair of star-cross’d lovers take their life…” (Act 1, Prologue). Through history, there have been many tales of deep romance, but Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare stands the test of time. However, the reason for this extended popularity may be because of the end result, one in which both lovers, Romeo and Juliet, die. With so many variables such as their families’ enmity and the motivation of parent figures such as Friar Lawrence and the Nurse of Juliet, one question looms, who or what is to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet?
This goes against what she originally thought. This causes Juliet to be alone because the relationship ended between her and the person closest to her. Without the nurse juliet made poor choices with the Friar. In conclusion, the nurse is one of the major causes of Romeo and Juliet’s
Over time, there has been much controversy about Shakespeare’s work, Romeo and Juliet, over who or what was the most responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. As we can clearly see, Friar Laurence is ultimately the cause of Romeo and Juliet’s deaths. The Friar was very rash in marrying Romeo and Juliet and should’ve seen the complications in marrying them in secret. The Friar’s plan was also very faulty and he made many mistakes. Also, the Friar failed in his spiritual guidance and gave into his cowardice in the end.
Friar Laurence should have planned for all possibilities when having Juliet's life in his hands. Nurse had always been there for Juliet, she was like her mother. Nurse Could never give Juliet up because she loved her. Juliet talked with her father and he told her if she does not marry Paris, Juliet will have to go live on the streets with no money. Juliet decided to not marry Paris
Friar Laurence is responsible for the deaths of both Romeo and Juliet because he is cowardly, selfish, and irresponsible . In the play, Friar Laurence is believed to be the wise and responsible Priest, when in reality his irresponsibility is a major factor in the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. In Act 2 Scene 3 Romeo goes to Friar Laurence in hopes that the Friar will marry him to Juliet, at this time
When she was talking about the death of Tybalt to Juliet, she made it seem like Romeo had died and not Tybalt, which made Juliet scared, stressed out and panicked. She also kept the marriage of Romeo and Juliet a secret (121). She kept it a secret before and after the marriage by planning and being at the wedding, and by helping them get a ladder so they could spend the night together. The nurse was also very inconsiderate of Juliet’s religion. She was allowing her to do whatever she wanted, even if it was allowing her to marry two people, Romeo and
The Death of Romeo and Juliet The star crossed lovers tried to overcome a substantial amount of challenges in order to live the loving and affectionate life they intended for, however given their circumstances, they were ill fated. In the play, Romeo and Juliet, written by Shakespeare, the couples marriage was cut short due to a series of events caused by multiple characters in the play. Characters such as the couples themselves could have been held responsible for their death due to their reckless decisions influenced by love and immaturity.
Friar Laurence can't guarantee that it won't harm her or that it will actually work because he has never actually used it before. Logically, Friar Laurence would find a safer and better way to solve Juliet's problem. Some may quarrel that the nurse can not possibly be to blame for Romeo and Juliet's deaths because she did not necessarily get involved with their relationship, she was only a messenger, and she never had any intention of harming Juliet, let alone causing her death. However, this still puts her to blame because she still knew about the relationship and instead of protecting Juliet from the consequences, as she should be, and telling the Capulets, to whom she is supposed to be loyal, she instead continued to encourage their secret relationship. The nurse continues to hide Romeo and Juliet's relationship from Lord and Lady Capulet when she warns Juliet exclaiming, “Your lady mother is coming to your chamber./
“Come child tell me your issues, God will forgive you for your sins.” Friar Lawrence and Friar John, the ones you go to for help. Or in this case the ones who will end your life. They have the ones who assisted in the suicide of Romeo and Juliet.
At one point in the play, the Friar decides to turn a simple plan into something complicated that results in both Romeo and Juliet dying. When Juliet demands Friar give her a solution for her problem, he responds: “A thing like death to chide away this shame, / That cop’st with death himself to scape from it” (4.1.74-75). The friar could have taken the situation of Juliet wanting to die by telling her that death is not the solution and to talk with her parents and tell the truth. Instead, the Friar decided to take this simple situation and made it complicated by telling Juliet she needs to fake her own death. Then, when Romeo and the Nurse are concerned about Romeo and Juliet’s Marriage, the Friar thinks he can fix the situation by saying: “To blaze your marriage, reconcile your friends, / Beg pardon of the Prince, and call thee back” (3.3.151-152).
I'll to him. He is hid at Lawrence' cell.” (3.2.151-154) Even though the Nurse did go to Romeo, the Friar is nonetheless at fault, for the Nurse then went on to advise Juliet to marry Paris, for “I think you are happy in this second match,/… it excels your first./… Your first is dead, or 'twere as good he were…”
The solution to Juliet’s problem, after she threatened to kill herself if the Friar did not have a solution, was to drink a potion that would make her look like she is dead. If Friar Laurence had not given the potion to Juliet, and instead gave her another plan such as possibly helping her escape Verona, Romeo and Juliet would have still been alive. Without the potion, Romeo would not hear that Juliet “died” and would not have rushed back and act carelessly. Also, the problem with this was that he trusted a child to fake her own death by herself without anyone else knowing while he thought of a plan to get Romeo back in order to dig her up after she was buried. If friar had not told juliet to keep her fake death a secret and told the nurse or someone, they could have
The Nurse and Lady Capulet with for Juliet wish for Juliet to get married so the Nurse says, “Go, girl, seek happy nights to happy days. ”(I.iii 105). Due to the nurse pushing Juliet so much to get married, Juliet immediately fell for Romeo and was a very easy catch. Thanks to the nurse’s desire for Juliet t get married, Juliet fell in love even though she was not interested in marriage and to please the nurse, she got married. If it weren’t for the nurse being so pushy, Romeo and Juliet may have never fell in love meaning that they wouldn’t have had suicidal thoughts for each
