He lost his mother at the tender age of five and inherited a fortune large enough to sustain him through all of his childhood and into early adulthood. Antoine’s father, Jean-Antoine Lavoisier, was a well renowned lawyer in the parliament. He began attending school at the age of eleven.
The Battle of Horseshoe Bend had a major significant impact on the expansion of the United States. This battle ended the Creek War successfully with General Andrew Jackson clearing the Mississippi Territory for the American expansion. This endeavor catapulted his career and made him the one our memorable Presidents. General Jackson knew what would advance his career and this was obviously it. I believe he was motivated by competition with fellow officer, General John Coffee, and what happened to him as a child when he encountered the Indians for the first time.

Born on October 10, 1837 in Boston, Massachusetts, Robert Gould Shaw was the second child and only son of Francis George and Sarah Blake Shaw, two prominent abolitionists at the time. Shaw’s family line consisted of very successful merchants and businessmen who had amassed millions through trade, making the childhood of Shaw and his four sisters a comfortable one. When Shaw turned four, his father retired from his part time law practice so he could pursue a literary career and to spend more time with his family; he moved his family to the country near Brook Farm. It was here that Shaw was exposed to the beliefs of freethinkers’ such as Nathaniel Hawthorne and Ralph Waldo Emerson, along with the open-minded ideals of the local Unitarian church.

Sam Adams was born September 27, 1722, in Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated from Harvard in 1740 and will later be know as one of the founding fathers. He took out a loan from his father and gave half to a friend that never repaid him and he spent the other half. Then his father names him a partner in the family business and Adams make a weekly article which fails and in 1756 he was a tax collector but he failed to collect the taxes. He served as a legislator for Massachusetts from 1765-1774.
Born in 1800, Dred Scott was born a Negro slave in Virginia, and later was taken to Missouri. (Rawley 188) Dred Scott was sold to army surgeon, John Emerson. John Emerson was a surgeon and because of his profession, he always traveled the country. According to the Missouri Compromise, Wisconsin fell under the free land.
John Adams John Adams is more than likely described as a strong-willed man. Many would say he’s very opinionated but some believe he is a man who wants what he wants, so he’ll do anything in his will to get it done. John Adams was born in Massachusetts in 1735, starting his career with a Harvard education and attended law school. John Adams then moved up in his career to become the second president of the United States. Adams served as Vice President under the command of George Washington because he came in second place during both elections that took place.
John Quincy Adams once wrote, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.” In this quote he clarifies the nature of leadership and defines the characteristics of what a great leader should be in less than 20 words. The quote relates to leadership because it shows the major characteristics a leader should have.
