Why do gangs like the greasers, Socs, playboy and Ventures fight with each other?
Some kids join gangs for protection and family and sometimes just for a fight. In the article called “ Rest in peace Doc” it’s about a boy named Doc also known as Desi. This boy had lost his family in an accident and him and his brother have the gang as a second family because the real family had left. Desi had joined the gang for protection because his parents had died in a rumble or a fight. It states in paragraph 1 that “I heard because his parents had been beat up by a rival gang just to disrespect them and he was hurt pretty bad in the incident.” This quote supports this because Desi lost someone he loved and he uses the gang as his protection in rumbles.
For many youths, gang life is all they know. Many gang members have other family members who are involved in gangs already. In Lauger’s (2012) ethnography of the DFW boyz, he found
The novel “The Outsiders”, is about two gangs, the Socs and the Greases. The members of each gang show that they’re unified. The characters in the novel are united by living in the same neighbourhood and being in the same gang. The appearance and language unites the characters, they look the same and talk a lot like each other. Violence in the novel is very common, this unites the characters, by fighting together this shows that they will always be there for each other.
“ ...while the Socs had so much spare time and money that they jumped us and each other for kicks, had beer blasts and river bottom parties because they didn’t know what else to do” (Hinton 43). This shows that Greasers have problems with wealth and why they are in groups such as gangs. This also shows that they do not have anything what the Socs have as they come from poor families with parents that neglect them or they passed away. Moreover, in the article “The Allure of Gangs,” “Feelings of being caught in a trap in a hopeless situation, in a poor neighborhood with no way out…,” (para 7). This shows that kids in poverty are and why they join gangs.
Turf wars became big: Gangs became big and started growing and turf gang wars became popular and
Failure to achieve positive goals. Not having someone support you or care about is what someone the men had went through growing. Joining the gang meant having a family around and one that protect them. Disjunction of expectations and achievements. They didn’t have the skills or the attitude to do anything to achieve their goals because no one had been supported them.
Since the beginning of time there have always been clicks and groups that were made up of people who had the same goals in mind or same interests. However, nowadays gangs consist mostly of people who commit the same type of crimes together that involve drug charges or murders. Gangs noticeably started getting their “bad image” beginning with a man named Al Capone. The rebellion started with the prohibition era. Al Capone was the most powerful gangster in Chicago during this era.
There is a number of reasons that range from simple to complex, on why teenagers join gangs, and we can help by finding solutions to their specific problem before they choose to join one. To help someone get out of a gang, we as a society need to show there’s more out there in the world that they could do that will make a positive impact. Teenagers have different reasons to join gangs depending on their life situation. Everyone in the “Greasers” in The Outsiders had different reasons to be part of the gang. “We were used to seeing Johnny banged up-
In American education, being in a gang and stereotypes plays a major role in the way people view education. Through loyalty to their gang, poverty, and corrupt legal systems, educational systems don 't know how to handle these types of people going through these problems. In many instances, people from rival gangs are in the same class or school. There will be no learning for them because it is engraved in their head that “I need to ‘pop’ this guy because his gang killed someone in my gang.”
The socs and the greasers obviously don't like each other because both sides are different. Socs beat up the greasers because they think its fun. Greasers had a hard time with money and getting beat up by the socs, but there is more to why they have it tougher.
In Chicago, and all over the nation, the effects of gang activity have been displayed, specifically in low income and poverty torn communities. Poverty is measured depending on a family’s annual income and determining if the amount falls below the poverty threshold for the family’s size. If the annual income does fall below the threshold, then the family and every individual in it is considered to be in poverty. Gang activity is more visible in the areas specifically in major cities similar to Chicago where poverty is a commonality in communities. although gangs might add structure in order where the government fails to do so in the projects and and similar low income communities the negative effects such as the distribution of drugs, violence,

Overtime, gangs have fought for several reasons even though they hsve similarities inbetween their differences. SE Hilton’s book The Outsiders had two rival gangs that fought endlessly because of their differences. Both groups are very different, their differences causing a divide between them. The groups both have different situations. Socs and Greasers are alike in hteir behavior, personality, and more.
(Gangs) A deviant subculture is defined as a subculture, which has values and norms that differ substantially from the majority of people in society. When a neighborhood or community favors illegal activities, a criminal subculture is likely to develop such as gangs. Walter Miller states that deviant subcultures don’t arise from the inability of a community to achieve success, but because of a lower-class subculture whose values and norms are different from the rest of society. Subcultures can be a good thing, because they can provide a sense of belonging, interaction with people who have similar interests, and gives members the freedom to express individuality.
When people make choices that could drastically change their life, the decision they make is based on the influence of others. In the novel, The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton a gang called the Greasers is stereotyped as being the “mean types” that slack off at school. Then there are the Socs who are the rich kids with cool cars that happen to like “jumping” greasers. As these two gangs are rivaling, they both go through some dramatic events that change their perspectives on life. In the novel The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton the character Darrel Curtis is unquestionably influenced by his gang as it prevents him from being successful to becoming the father of the gang, and overall being someone to look up to.
Most gangs are made up of young males that are of a similar background and have a desire of acquiring
