Not everyone agrees that school prayer should be banned however. Some say that banning prayer is illegal. They claim that, thanks to the first amendment, that prayer being banned is a violation of religious rights. Of course, banning prayer is illegal, which is why prayer is not banned, but prayer led by school officials or prayers officiated by the school are.
At one point in time, over 7,220 books have been challenged to be banned. Though these books have been removed for the safety of children, not all books should be banned for many reasons. These include the fact that banning books is infringing on the First Amendment, keeping children from understanding the real world, and, even though there are many reasons for book banning, not banning books could help a student’s education and can even work against itself. Banning a book from a school or public library could go against a person’s First Amendment of the freedom of press.
Classic well-known books such as Harry Potter, Slaughterhouse Five, along with many other books have been banned. Books should not be banned from any school or library. People buy books simply because they have been outlawed, children should be exposed to the real life situations that books can offer them, and people should be able to read what they want. These are the reasons that banning books is controversial. People buy books because they have been banned.
The pros of being against book banning is the First Amendment, parental control, and true facts and occurrences. The cons of being against book banning is that the works contain offensive and racist material, parents cannot control what their children learn at school, and the true facts and events that promote bad influence. People should not support book banning because the First Amendment supports the freedom of speech and the press. In the past the Roman Catholic Church began the practice of book banning.
Some people may say that cyberbullying outside of school is not the schools problem and can violate some rights. In Source B, the source was about how schools had no authority to discipline a child for harassment off-campus. The constitution states that, “Congress should make no aww.. Abridging the freedom of speech” which states that they cannot punish you for something that is in the constitution. Courts ruled that a school could not discipline a student for inappropiate off-campus student speech.(Source B)
This quote, for example, is teaching that if you always be kind to people and you will have many friends. These are the two different sides and how they could solve their differences to make both sides happier, a compromise. The first two paragraphs were all about how banned books are bad, how they are all horrific and not something you would like to read. However, in the third paragraph, we find that is not the truth that banned books can be good for people to read as well. Now think about how many books are being prosecuted needlessly, how many of the bad ones are being forced into teens hands.

Banning books is not acceptable because it’s not allowing the reader the choice of what they want to read and that is going against their civil rights. It also keep them from broadening their horizons because they do not have the ability to step into another person’s shoes and learn from their mistakes. Keeping controversial topics out of the spotlight causes people to be uneducated about specific topics, which also leads to judgement and stereotyping of certain groups or people. How does banning books cause more harm than good? Well, banning books destructs the general well being of people;from someone not being able to have control over what they want to read, to keeping people from the best overall learning experience, and to not discussing real topics that need to be talked about.
Should art be censored? Throughout history, many have felt the need to remove or suppress material that they consider to be morally or politically objectionable, such as books, films, or other materials. They feel that these materials should not be taught in schools or shown in public museums. These people believe no one should be subjected to something that may be against their teachings or beliefs. Others, however, do not feel that these or any works of art should be suppressed.
Entertainment such as, tv and radio play a big part in why most people do not independently think for themselves. The bigger reason is the sensitivities towards the “offensive” opinions written in these books that makes people submit to the goverments rules. This makes one either obey the authority and seeing what can happen to the world if they chose to let it stay the same or disobeying authority for change. Very much alike the recent occurrences where some college students have been rejecting the books they were given and are requesting new books and passages that are not offensive for the end result of softening and changing dated learning. On the other hand, there are new rules that are trying to make penitentiary’s “safer”, though adding specific approved “respectable” books for the prisoners to read and taking away their personal input on information.

Lots of people challenge books due to witchcrafting, racial, and sexual content. Books being challenged doesn’t mean it will get banned, not all the time. A person 's decision can impact others when someone wants to ban a book.
(Mullally). School official “cannot suppress ‘expressions of feeling with which they do not wish to contend’” (Mullally). This means that the schools cannot remove a book simply because they disagree with something contained in it. Then how are books banned?
Even though it censors inappropriate material that influences impressionable minds, we should not ban books books because it filters realism and limits our ability for an open mind. It would deprive students of an education about the world around them. Banning books would completely get rid of our freedom of expression and it would restrain our usually infinite imagination. If we allow for books to be banned, it would limit our ability to have imagination and have an open mind about the world around us.
The book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury shows censorship throughout the book to keep citizens in the dark about matters they should know about. The government does not want their citizens to know the reality around them. The reason given for censorship is to ensure the happiness of their citizens. Anything involving poems, stories or any piece of literature is prohibited. The idea is that people won’t be able to get ideas of revolting, personal opinions that are debatable and prevent knowledge spreading about what’s going on in there reality.
