Imagine a world where there are no trees, where there are dried up rivers, seas and oceans, where the animals are gone and will never come back. Imagine earth without life. Hard to imagine isn’t it? But if you think about it, sooner or later it will happen.
The life on earth is slowly deteriorating. If you have not noticed, the forests are balding, the glaciers are melting, and plants and animals are going extinct. We will no longer have sources of food, shelter, clothing and many other necessities in our lives. There will no longer be life on earth, there will just be technology replacing life, buildings replacing trees and waste replacing waters. If we don’t take care of the life around us, there will be nothing left for us. The life on earth, such as plants, animals, forests, the bodies of water and many others should be taken to importance because it is necessary in the lives of the people and especially to the world. Biodiversity includes the animals, the environment, the plants and microorganisms. Biodiversity is important because of the fact that it boosts ecosystem productivity (Shah, 2008, para 5). Meaning, without biodiversity, the life on earth would not function properly for the reason that the different organisms would have no sources of food, shelter, and many other resources these organisms need. Also, different species depend on another set of species in order for them to live. For example, a herd of cows needs grass or other plants as their source of food. A type of species wouldn’t be able to survive if there is a scarcity in biodiversity. Biodiversity also provides raw materials to supply basic necessities to the human beings.
