Have you ever thought what would've happened if Columbus had not of found the Americas? I think it probably would’ve been taken over by Indians. But, luckily, we don't have to worry about that! Because, fortunately, Columbus DID find the Americas.
The most important voyage that happened is the First Expedition. In 1492, Columbus sailed, but, he sailed for a different reason. He sailed to prove the world was not flat, and to find a new route to the cities of Asia, by traveling West. He actually thought that, when he landed in the Americas, he landed in India. That is why they are called Indians.
But, did Columbus ACTUALLY discovered the Americas? The answer is very likely, no. There was said that the was millions of people who already lived
(Zinn 3) Therefore, Columbus was not technically the first to discover America. Although
Columbus never really discovered America, in 1492, the Native Americans
Columbus is part of the reason why we are living in America, Although he didn't found it and he wasn't the first one here he still was a big part of America! Who was Columbus? Columbus was a Italian explorer who sailed for Spain. Columbus died at the age of 57 (1451-1506). He was from Italy but had went to the king and queen of Spain for ships and other things he needed to go to the new world.
Some will claim Columbus discovered America and if he didn’t then America wouldn’t be the same as today. Columbus also discovered that the earth was round and not flat. Also 60% of America's food was discovered by him. Columbus did some good things but it did not make up for what he did, and he still killed many people, was a tyrant, and he was a slave
It is not like no one lived in America. There was a whole population who had lived in America for a very long time. So if anyone discovered America, it would have been these natives. Also, technically Columbus was not even the first European to discover America. Historians note that it was actually the Vikings who were the first Europeans to land on
This was much to his surprise. In reality, for thousands of years, there had been hundreds of Native tribes that had widely inhabited both the South and North Americas. It is believed that North America was
For decades Americans have been taught that Christopher Columbus was the first European to discover America in the year 1492. Until more recent years, elementary school teachers have told the tale of the Italian explorer, funded by the Spanish monarchy, discovering North America while on a quest for trade routes to India. While Columbus did indeed journey to America, as made evident by the annihilation of a majority of the Native population through violence and disease brought by the European explorers, his story proves to not be as heroic as many have been led to believe. New evidence proves that Columbus was not the first European to discover and set foot in North America, but rather Leif Eriksson, a Viking. The ever growing knowledge of
The name of this article is “Columbus, The Indians, and Human Progress” and it informs readers of multiple ages the truth about Christopher Columbus. This text was written by Howard Zinn and it explains how Columbus wasn’t as noble as people previously thought. Columbus and his men sailed west from a Spanish port in hopes to reach Asia. Their goal once they landed was to find gold and other priceless jewels. As a result of miscalculations, they discover the Americas.
When I was younger I was under the impression that Christopher Columbus was a great man and that he discovered America. We celebrate Columbus day because we honor him for “discovering America”. From this new information that I have learned today, Christopher Columbus is not the man iv have been taught about.
Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer and a cartographer who was chronologically tentative to be born before October 31,1451(no one really knows because of this time of error). He went on a voyage in 1492 using circumnavigation to avoid having to go
According to Loewen, few textbooks explained how Columbus was involved in the slavery and the exploitation of Indians. Another error that we have learned in schools about Columbus is that he was the first person to “discover” America. However, this is an error because people from other continents had already reached America before 1492. In fact, we forget
Columbus died not knowing he later found America after he discovered the Caribbean. Magellan later made a route around the world all the way to Africa with the help of a map (dock D). The priests of the churches became mad because they claimed that God made the World flat but was wrong, as well as thinking that the heavens were above the clouds. They were later wrong. The Explorers are still known for “exploring” and “finding” America and the caribbeans.
Christopher Columbus was an explorer and navigator born in 1451 in Genoa, Italy. When Christopher Columbus crossed the Atlantic Ocean from Spain in 1492, he hoped to reach eastern Asia. He thought he had reached Asia when he landed on an island in the Caribbean Sea. In fact he had opened up to Europeans a new world with two continents—North America and South America—and many islands.
Columbus does not deserve the credit of being called a hero because he did not start a new civilization. In fact, “American Indian people have been on this continent at least 10,000 years, and scientists have proven that numerous other explorers had arrived on this continent from other parts of the world long before Columbus.” (Document 3). Instead of forming a new civilization with the American Indians instead he invaded their land, changed their culture and how they lived he indeed did not start a new civilization.
Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue in fourteen hundred ninety-two. When one hears the name Christopher Columbus, they tend to think about his discovery of America. What they don’t consider is how his discovery changed and affected America. First of all, Columbus’ discovery provided the start of a long term colonization, which created what we know today as America. People, who immigrated from another country, traveled all over the world to make it to America in hopes of getting land in “The New World”.
