According to History Today, “The island of Singapore at the foot of the Malay peninsula originally came under British control in 1819.”(Richard) The quote shows that Singapore was the colony of British that time, so there were some relationships between these two places. Next, according to BBC, “1922- Singapore becomes main British naval base in East Asia.” (BBC) It shows that Singapore was very important for British that time, if it is defeated, British may have big problems, so British needed to protect the colony.
Fall Of Singapore Major turning point for the Axis in WW2. __________________________________________________________________ The fall of Singapore is widely viewed as a major turning point in WW2. Because of vulnerability to invasion Australia had felt after the British naval base had fallen.
The Battle of Singapore, also known as the Fall of Singapore, was fought in South-East Asia during the Second World War. It occurred when the Empire of Japan attacked the Allied stronghold of Singapore, which was being defended by Australian and British troops. Singapore fell to the Japanese Army on the 15th of February1942, after a conflict, which lasted only a week. Because the British and Australian armies both played significant roles in the fall, and Australia was a dependent territory of Great Britain, Australia’s government and its relationship with Britain were tested severely during and after the Fall of Singapore. This was due to numerous decisions from the British government regarding the importance of Australia’s dense, which included
Indeed, Malaya was divided in the Malay States which were under indirect British rule as well as the Straits Settlements that were place under the authority of the British crown and the colonial office in London. The nine Malay States were ruled by monarchs or sultans until the British empire created the Federate Malaya State in 1895 after agreeing with four of these state leaders. Once again, the British benefitted of a strategic location in Southeast Asia that had natural resources and yet did not need require direct rule because local leaders were able to keep control while cooperating with the British colonial power making it once again an example of indirect colonialism. However, the other part of Malaya was made of the Straits Settlements originally administered by the East Indian company and which were later directly administered by the British Empire through the late 19th and mid 20th century as local Malaya leaders were replaced by British officials and pre-colonial institutions replaced by British structures. This happened because both economic and military interests were too much at stake in the Straits Settlements and therefore only direct rule could ensure the British interest in the region.
This shows an example within the changes in society and how Singapore changed as a whole under the new management. This happened not only in Singapore, but also Hawaii. For Instance, In the book Dragonfruit by Malia McManus, there's a scene where Abram appears to not want to raise Samuel as Hawaiian. “He is Hawaiian.
Singapore is a republic with a parliamentary system of government. There are three branches of the Government of Singapore: Executive, Legislative and the Judiciary. Singapore and former British colony took up the Westminster model after Singapore became independent on 9 August 1965. In 1954, PAP also known as People’s Action Party was formed. Mr. Lee Kuan Yew led the PAP and won the first election to form Singapore’s first government after it enjoyed an overwhelming victory by capturing 43 out of 51 seats in the
The resources in Singapore were critical to Japanese war efforts in the Pacific and capturing them would give Japan a significant advantage over its enemies another goal of Japan's invasion of Singapore was to weaken the British Empire and expand its own Empire in the region the Japanese saw the British Empire as a major obstacle to their Imperial Ambitions and they hoped That capturing Singapore they could deal a major blow to the British and establish themselves as the dominant power and Southeast Asia this would allow Japan to expand its fear of influence in the region and gain access to new resources and markets finally Japan's invasion of Singapore was driven to desire to prove its military superiority and establish itself a major world power the Japanese military had an expanding rapidly in the years leading up to World War II and they saw the war as an opportunity to demonstrate their strength and powers on the world stage by capturing Singapore Japan could show the world that it was a forced to be reckoned with and that it was capable of defeating
Initially the British East India Company made considerable trade with India and searched for a safe harbor in Malaya and therefore in 1819 they founded a trading post at Singapore. Then, in 1824, came into play the treaty of London dividing the land between the British and the Dutch and therefore Britain gained Melaka. Some revolutions arose and were violently repressed but this firmer clutch, as well, started to soften up and in 1853. Britain removed the taxes on tin, then established a protectorate and with increasing influence more Malayan states joined its protectorate, and Britain respected it’s terms.
Singapore is an extremely beautiful but strict country. I recently heard that one can get a 1000.00 Singaporean dollar fine just for dropping a piece of paper on the ground. There are different kinds of ethnic groups in Singapore and most of it being Chinese the rest are Malay and Indian. The president of Singapore is Tony Tan and Singapore is considered to be a republic and is the world’s only Island City State and was settled in the second century.

Singapore’s current political system is a democratic society. On paper, it ticks all the boxes of what makes a democratic system. It gives citizens the right to vote for the person they feel will best represent the voice of the people and address their needs. It also ensures that people have the freedom of speech and expression as stated in Article 14 of the Constitution of the Republic of Singapore. However, things do not appear to be so straightforward, there definitely is more than meets the eye.
The definition of immigration is a person leaving his home country and moving to another one in which he/she does not own a citizenship. There are many reasons why people want to escape from the country they live in. For example, if there is a war in the place where the person is living, he would want to go to a safer place. There are many immigrants all over the world, and almost every person has a relative or a friend who once has been an immigrant. The main point of leaving the country where a person was born is seeking a better place to work, live, and for a better place for his/hers kids to grow up.
For the immigrants, they lack the knowledge, understanding and sensitivity about Singapore’s local culture, norms, and practices. They may act in a way that will offend Singaporeans, leading to social tensions between both parties. Many Singaporeans already feel crowded in their home country, leading to an underlying unhappiness and tension that does not need to be further strained by immigrants ignorance of Singapore’s
This is because there is no separation between executive and legislative because of Malaysia cabinet type of organization. In Malaysia Prime Minister is come from Dewan Rakyat. In cabinet will appointed Yang Di-PertuaAgong giving advice to Prime Minister. The Executive Branch also has the group to administrate the law and appoint official and oversee the administration of government responsibilities.
Gaius Sallutius Crispus once said “Harmony makes small things grow, lack of it make great things decay.” Harmony is an agreement where it brings closure to fights. It has to be maintained and flows smoothly like a river in a never ending way. A small thing or a problem can be solve through discussion and exchanging of brilliant and logical ideas. Without harmony, there will be no peace, only chaos and the river bathed with red blood.
