In the article The Revoluting Truth by Malcolm Gladwell, he states that a colonial leader called the Britons the oppressors. This was ironic because of the fact that slavery was a huge issue in the colonies. However, in this document, Gladwell also says the colonists fight for independence was, “Ungrateful New Worlders who persistantly refused to contribute...toward the defense and upkeep of their newly claimed continent”(Gladwell). This is untrue because the colonists were able to defend their land and during the Revolution, Britain was said to have the upper hand. The colonists were so determined to become an independent country and ended up winning the
The British captured Louisburg and dealt the final blow to the French when they captured Quebec in 1759. The war finally ended in 1763 with the Treaty of Paris which allowed the British to keep Canada as well as gain Florida, but in return the French were allowed to keep the West Indian sugar islands and Spain received Louisiana ("French and Indian War"). The French and Indian war greatly impacted the relationship between England and the American colonies causing tension between the two for many years and eventually resulting in the Revolutionary war. During the Great War for Empire England accrued a sizeable debt and believed that the colonies should do their part in helping to pay it off.

The doctrine didn’t make great change at it’s time but was revived during Polk’s presidency and eventually became an important national principle. The War of 1812 was a result of the events that occurred during Britain’s conflicts with France. America declared itself a sovereign nation during the conflicts between Britain and France but the British still punished the nation through the Orders in Council and impressment. The practice of impressment combined with American embargo policies pushed America to declare war on Britain in 1812 because Britain showed no respect for America’s sovereignty and proved that it wouldn’t change it’s restrictive trading policies despite America’s peaceful attempts. America declared war on Britain in 1812 largely because of Britain’s practice of impressment.
Task 4 Amanda Diesing Survey of World History C375 Western Governors University A The economic causes of the American Revolution stemmed from the Seven Years War fought in Europe. The cost of the war in England was immense, with borrowed money covering the cost. In order to repay the debt, England composed a plan to not only recoup money but to also assert its power over the American empire: levy taxes upon the colonists. Colonists were taxed on everything from paper to tea and were prohibited from importing goods from anywhere other than England.

However, the British government was in massive debt following the war, and could not pay off the debt without procuring more funds from their citizens. This debt and future misunderstanding of specifically the colonists of the thirteen colonies is what led to the aforementioned colonists to desire independence. The British controlled much more besides the thirteen colonies.
From 1600-1763, several nations vied for control of the North American continent. These nations included Britain, France, and Spain. The Treaty of Paris in 1763 gave the English, the French land of North America (Doc A).
Why did the colonists want to leave Britain? The American Revolution was led on by the Proclamation Of 1763 and the French Indian war. Certain acts enforced by the British had new regulations.
