The Civil War was an outstanding victory for the North. There were many reasons to believe the North had this war in the bag the whole time. They had several advantages to the South like their Naval strength, access to railroads, larger population, and their thriving yet better economy. The North used all of these advantages to its fullest. Their Navy forces were used to blockade the south, causing the South to be deprived on any goods being brought in from other countries. Their railroads allowed the North to provide supplied faster to the soldiers at battle. I think one of the major factors leading the south to victory was their leader, Abraham Lincoln. though he had no experience in fighting, he was a major influence for the people. He could form himself to the emotions of the people. He was always giving them what they needed emotionally to fight the war. I think this is what allowed the South the carry through the war with a consistent strength. they fought everyday like it was their last. Another major factor I feel allowed the South to maintain its successful status was their finances. From the get go they had more than enough finances to cover what was needed to fight the war. I believe this to be true because of its population. The large number of population and booming economy caused an insane number of wealthy citizens. Who wouldn't want to invest in a fight they feel strongly about? The large population also contributed to the amount of people available to work. Not only did they lack ammo, they lack the necessities needed to survive. because of this and the advantages utilized by the North, Robert E. Lee was forced to surrender his last bit of troops he had left. This was the reason I think the war ended the way it did. The South was isolated from the rest of the world. They had no choice but to surrender. Yes maybe they could have kept on fighting and try to elongate the war enough to force a compromise, like America did in the Revolutionary war, but I think there would have been nothing for the South. By the time it got to that point the fight wouldn't be worth it anymore.
