Writing Prompt- You are going to persuade the reader that the person you are writing about deserves a holiday or not. 2 page minimum include sources.
I believe that Thomas Jonathan “Stonewall” Jackson should have a holiday named after him. I believe he deserves this holiday for many reason. First, he was brave, his braveness caused the rest of the army to stand with him. Second, Thomas was considered to be a war hero. Lastly, he was one of the most famous Confederate Generals. These are just some of the reasons I think Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson deserves his own holiday. Let me give you some more details on my reasonings: First, Thomas Jackson was brave. During his Battle of the First Bull Run which. It was given to him by Confederate General Bernard Bee when he was inspired by

First, Thomas, as said in the above paragraph, was sent to serve in the Mexican war straight out of college to be second lieutenant in the third Artillery Regiment. Also not only once but twice was breveted (military commission conferred mostly for outstanding service) for his actions in war. His actions at Harpers Ferry (1861) made him a military legend. Not only did this make him a military legend but also his Shenandoah Vally Campaign (1862), and the flanking maneuver at the Battle of Chancellorsville. To many Jackson was considered a greater war hero to the South then Lee ever was. When he was an instructor at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington he memorized his lectures. He captured a large number locomotives and cars of the B&O. He captured Romney successfully. Jackson’s men held off uncoordinated Federal attacks from for 2 days in the Second Battle of Bull Run, until General James Longstreet arrived with Lee’s army. At the Battle of Bull Run he demonstrated superb leadership resulting in the day with the most casualties of the ‘Stonewall Brigade’ but also resulted in the other men of the Confederacy earning a great respect for Stonewall. Even after Stonewall had been promoted to Major General, he continued to impress with his leadership. Even in the bloodiest single day of the Civil War, the battle of Antietam, Jackson held out his men. Him and his brigade were positioned in the northern end of the battle, and held out against a very intense attack from the Union. In fact, this particular demonstration of leadership “promoted [Jackson] to Lieutenant General in command of Second Corps” (p. 81, Dabney).
During the first Battle of Bull Run, Jackson’s fearlessness encouraged retreating Confederate soldiers to turn around and hold firm (Doak, 53). If Jackson’s soldiers hadn’t stayed and fought, the Union could have captured the Confederate capitol in Richmond, Virginia and won the Civil War. Jackson always made sure that his troops scavenged guns and ammo from dead enemies to make sure they had extra supplies (Doak, 56). He organized extremely successful military maneuvers at the battles of Front Royal, Winchester, Cross Keys, and Port Republic in the spring of 1862 (T. J. "Stonewall" Jackson).
“Robert E. Lee (1807-70) served as a military officer in the U.S. Army, a West Point commandant and the amazing general of the Confederate Army during the American Civil War 1861-1865. In June 1861, Lee gained command of the Army of Northern Virginia, which he would lead for the rest of the war. Lee and his army achieved great success during the Peninsula Campaign and at Second Bull Run and Fredericksburg, with his greatest victory coming in the bloody Battle of Chancellorsville. In the spring of 1863 Lee invaded the North only to be defeated at the Battle of Gettysburg. With Confederate defeat a near blowout, Lee continued on, battling Union General Ulysses S. Grant in a series of battles in Virginia in 1864-1865 before he finally surrendered
Sherman’s March The Civil war was an event that shaped America. There were many important battles, events, and inventions that changed the course of the war. One of those important events was Sherman’s March. Sherman’s March changed the way the rest of the civil war was fought, by entering, “total war” (Carr).

In my essay I wrote about Andrew jackson and whether he was a good or bad president. And I decided to pick that he was a bad president here's why Now i will tell you about the best, worst, good and bad- Best - when he became major general because he won many battles for us and let us be free from the british. As commander and later major general of the Tennessee military, he maneuvered himself into important theaters during the War of 1812.
Andrew Jackson should be on the $20 bill. He helped with the expansion of the United States, inspired the commoners when he became president, and defended the Union and the people. Many people could say that Andrew Jackson is a villain because he forced Indians to move westward. However, he did help with the expansions of the United States.
At the time of the Revolutionary War, Jackson was 13 when he joined the army as a runner. Jackson lost his father before he was born and then lost his mother and two brothers during the war. After the war, Jackson learned how to read books on law, which helped him find a job as a lawyer. Jackson later served in the war of 1828, where he gained the name “Old Hickory,” because of his harsh commands and his capability shown in combat. The victory of the Battle of New Orleans made Jackson a hero to the American people.
Jackson ignored the Supreme Court. He continued forcing indians out the west. This journey is known as the Trail of Tears. One-fourth of indians died from this journey. Just because Jackson was put on the $20 bill doesn’t mean he did not do bad things.
The time has come to make a judgement of the great Andrew Jackson, the 7th president of the United States from 1829~1837. Although some people didn’t like Jackson very well due to very few of his decisions, he made many good decisions during his presidency. Andrew Jackson should be remembered as a hero of the common man due to his unifying leadership, generous approach of governing, and concern for economic equality. The first reason that Andrew Jackson should be remembered as a hero is because of his unifying leadership.
(448) Because of this Jackson had earned the nickname "Old Hickory" because he was a tough as a hardwood tree, according to his soldiers. Nevertheless, Jackson had promised the nation equal protection and equal benefits, for all Americans,
There have been many prominent leaders that have molded America into what it is today, Lee is one of them. Robert E. Lee was born in Virginia, January 19, 1807, although one historian believes has was born one year earlier (Wikipedia.com 1). Little is actually known about his childhood, and Lee scarcely mentioned it as an adult. His father, Henry “Light Horse” Lee, left him and his family at a young age and never returned. In 1825, Robert E. Lee attended West Point and graduated second in his class in 1829.
Dear Mr. President, Political participation are either young Citizens exercising their voting rights, proud activists attending protests or influential figures standing up for elections. It’s our job as the next generation and future leaders of this country, to not only be politically active but to acknowledge and recognize political contributions made by other people. Those people may have been civil rights activists, abolitionists or political leaders I’m writing you to propose we should make a national holiday for one such individual that has contributed so much, but remembered only in history books.
Jackson no doubt, was an excellent military man and leader. He had courage others dreamt of having and was also a very good outspoken speaker, not afraid to display his beliefs. Jackson became famous with his military leadership. In the war of 1812, Jackson served as major general and led the U.S. Army against the “Creek Indians”, who were allies of the British. The war was concluded after Jackson and his men (including Sam Houston & David Crockett) defeated the Creek Indians at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend.
