A family that has to worry about where their money, food, shelter is coming from, won't able to bond and be a traditional family. Single-parents are forced to work hours to keep up with the bills, often separating them from their children. Without parental guidance, children begin to look elsewhere. This is what gets children involved in gangs, and then crime. Children who aren't shown love and support go on to lead unsatisfactory lives.
Here, Walls and her father see differently. Walls told her father about this situation so that he could address it, but instead he made up an excuse for what really happened when he was not in the room with his daughter and his acquaintance. Personally, the Walls’ parents are too worried about themselves. Instead of making money to support their kids, the parents spend money on other things like art supplies for the mom, and alcohol for the dad. Like shown in the evidence above, Walls’ parents don’t show much care or worry for specifically Jeannette, but also the other kids.
How much freedom and supervision should parents give their children really depends on them both. Most parents today are too overprotective. Overprotective parents can be a negative influence on their children due to the fact that they avoid going through struggles and challenges. If the parent is overprotective their children would not learn how to be independent. In the memoir The Glass Castle, Jeannette mentioned “Mom liked to encourage self-sufficiency in all living creatures.” So that way children will be able to get by on their own.
And at times like these, self-esteem is even more vital than food’” (186). By keeping the ring for herself Rose gave up the opportunity to get food for her kids. This HURT her kids because they would have to go another day without any meals. Their mother’s beliefs and selfishness hurt them by making them not fit in, live in poverty, and starve many times. Although, all of the hardships Jeannette faced helped her not have to depend on others later in life.
Also the teachers in the school may not be qualified enough to provide them with a good education and therefore they would not be learning much to begin with. Father Julliard says in the book; “Few children do come after the age of ten. Their family’s want them picking trash, and it’s hard to argue that an education’s ever going to be helpful – so we lose
The single mother will need to obtain the responsibility of providing for the family, do maintenance on the house and be a caring parent, while only being one person. This can be highly stressful and it can have a negative impact on the mother and the children. This can cause a conflict in the house if the only parent in the house has been overwhelmed and has no time to relax.“Medina says she recognized right away that she didn’t have time to be the father and mother both”(Forestner 2). Telemachus’s mother was so busy trying to rule the kingdom and keep away the suitors, she did not always have the time to be with Telemachus. Telemachus decided to form friends with others in the palace such as maids and workers.

Young Ju’s parents also must deal with the financial issue that many immigrants face. Both her mother and father are working constantly just to pay for their rent and food. The children do not get fancy clothing, expensive meals, or new toys. They are

That answer being, yes it is a problem but how do you expect us to fix this? The economy was in shambles, overproduction was apparent, and the only other people in the family not working were sadly the children. They were targeted, but not for exact reason that is depicted to emotionally amplify this speech. Children were targeted only because the parents needed a source of income other than their own to survive. All in all, without individual women like Florence Kelley, much of the problems regarding emotional and ethical appeal would just be set aside.
