Persuasive Argument National Athletes are/are not Paid Too Much The topic, pro athletes are/are not getting paid too much, is a heated argument between people. Have you ever thought about it? Well, an answer that I’m sure would be agreed with is that national athletes are paid way too much money. Some people might say that they deserve what they get, but there really isn’t any supportive reasons for that. People know that doctors and firefighters save lives, while athletes play a game to make money.
Not saying athletes should get paid as much as their coaches. I’m just saying they desserve some help from their school, like they should get $1,500 a month. They putting their talent on the line. What if they get hurt and was good enough to go pro but can’t because that injury stopping them? What happen to them players?
The Grand Debate The grand debate of whether to pay college athletes continues today. Yet, today there are so many other amenities provided to the athletes that they are practically paid through those. College coaches receive sky high salaries, the booster clubs donate millions of dollars to the university 's athletic program but those who are actually performing and competing do not get paid. As a former athlete, I do not think college athletes should be paid. Most already have paid tuition and amenities.
Most importantly, people are working harder than a pro athlete and they still make more. According to Chris Mueller in the article titled, “Two Sides to Every Coin, Professional Athletes Overpaid?” his dad had worked super hard but made less then Peyton Manning did in one year, then he did in his lifetime! Some people would say that they need that money for an expensive medical bill but, athletes could learn to be frugal like us and save their extra money so that they don’t have to be paid so much. Another
He says the main problem with paying NCAA athletes is the fact that universities cannot afford to do this as many of them do not make money already, fewer than 2 dozen to be exact. Nocera says every sport of every university should have a salary cap, much like the NFL or the NBA. This idea would not cost as much as paying every player any amount. He says that the salary cap should be set with a player minimum and if you combine all of the players’ minimum salaries that should be half of the salary cap. This would add stratigies in basketball to get a bunch of players at the minimum and then one really good player with the remaining budget.
Soldiers should be paid more than athletes. Soldiers are the reason why we are safe because they protect us. Any person that fights for our country should get paid more than athletes . Soldiers get paid 1,531.50 dollars a month people with more experience the higher their pay increases . But athletes make 491 million dollars each season.
The reason why they don’t pay athletes with this money is because they use this money to better the student’s college experience. With the money they are making the college the college can buy them a new field or new court to play on. If you look at all the successful schools their campuses and athletic areas have all the schools earnings put into them. It is not a surprise and is known that Colleges have the money to pay athletes but that is not the problem. The problem is the lawsuits that are holding the NCAA back from doing so and they also make arguments of paying college athletes pointless.
Why Collegiate Athletes Should Not Be Paid Annually the NCAA as a whole brings in approximately six billion dollars, yet the people generating the income are not making a dime? In the United States collegiate sporting events are a massive industry but the players do not receive an income because they are technically amateurs. Is it time to start paying college athletes? Or should players continue to be rewarded in free education? Many believe it is absurd to still consider the NCAA amateur sports after all it has become but just as many think the exact opposite and that college athletes already receive fair compensation for their participation.
The college uses that money on pointless things. When instead they could be paying their players who are generally making most of the money. Because people buy tickets to watch the players play not to just give the college money or to come watch the coach. The coaches make millions of dollars and get credited for the success of the players. Which isn 't fair because the
“Cristiano Ronaldo makes $56 million a year, Kobe Bryant made $250 million a year and Barack Obama made $400,000 a year during his presidency...” (O'Connor ). Professional athletes are paid millions of dollars to play a game while police officers, firefighters, army soldiers, and even the president are paid significantly less. “It’s not shocking that public servants like teachers and police officers make less than professional athletes”(Figueroa). Compensation shouldn't be about entertainment, it should be about job importance because people are trying to make the world a better and safer place not a more entertaining place. The jobs that are harder and have a better effect on society are valued way less than being a professional athlete.
My solution is better than any other proposed solution because all other solutions may ask too much or too little from NCAA making them refuse any proposal talking about the athletes being paid. The annual revenue of college athletics is $10.6 billion and it’s believed that compared to a $120,000 scholarships it shows that the athletes really do deserve to be paid. If the athletes aren’t paid who says that they cannot resort to selling drugs or other illegal activities so they can feed themselves, Athletes are said to have changed their field of study to accommodate with their sport because balancing school and their sport was too hard to do because they spend too much time focused on their sport. The NCAA believes that the fact that the athletes might be drafted and go into being a professional athlete shows that they can wait to be paid. In conclusion, athletes should only be paid enough to support themselves and be able to have some luxuries that they deserve.
After researching this topic, my opinion is that college athletes should be paid. The NCAA makes millions of dollars every year, while some athletes can’t put food on the table. Athletes need to be paid for their services like they are working a job, and should be paid by the hour. If the NCAA paid every one of its athletes 200 dollars a week, it would still be a fraction of its revenue. A union must be formed by the athletes for equal pay across the sports, and unfair restrictions set upon athletes and not other students should be
The get paid in free education.” This is just a borderline disrespectful statement and the NCAA could have said something completely different and respectful. This is disrespectful because it seems like they are making a joke out of a very controversial topic that more than 460,000 athletes face everyday. Not every athlete comes from a 5 figure background and can count on their parents to help their payments. Most athletes are only in college because of the scholarships they receive and need to make it work on their own. They could be helped by the NCAA with at least a monthly stipend to help with the costs of
When people hear about if college athletes should get paid they would say no because they think the athletes would get paid millions of dollars. It is not like that, college athletes would not be paid that high they would only need to be paid so they can live a decent life. They have to balance their lives with school and their sports. College athletes should get paid because The NCCA is billion dollar business and the athletes don’t get any money, athletes spend more hours working for the sport than the average American, it helps athletes manage their money. The NCAA is a hundred million dollar company, they make a lot of money through TV views, jersey sales, ticket and, sales.
Furthermore, the decision to start paying the athletes not only would create a even playing field that has typically been swayed toward the universities. Stipends are needed to control how much is allocated, but that itself will be the spark that is needed. This is important because the relationship between the NCAA and their athletes are like any other employer its employee; employer should pay the employee what they are worth, not just what they feel is equal. The NCAA has duplicated the structure that held many people down in the 1800’s - slavery. They earn the massive income as the laborers (athlete) settle for pennies.
