With anticipation and nervousness I walk to school with my parent. I cannot imagine getting less than 8A+ because according to my conselor, only getting 8A+ will I be able to secure any scholarship, something which is very important to me due to my parent 's incapability to pay for my tertiary education. The moment Sir wie, my form teacher give me the result slip, my heart skips a beat. i am cold from feet to toe from the suspense. Then the moment arrives! It is the most unforgettable time of my life. I manage to get 9A+ and my prayer has been answered. At this time of year, I begin to look back at my life after 12 hard years of schooling. Throughout the course of my life, there have been many ups and downs, but these up and downs is what made me who I am today. These influences have shaped my values, attitudes and beliefs towards life. There have been many important people and events that has impacted my life. One of which is family and the media.
Lani: I was helping for someone’s project for COMM 245; I was in the video lab, in the studio. I was on campus and decided to contact everyone I knew who comes to the school. I remember I sent out a snap saying guys I think there is a shooting, be careful and then I started sending out individual texts to people making sure they were okay, like hey are you good? Stay out of an area.
I am sincerely honoured and appreciative that I have been selected as a possible recipient of the Schulich Leader Scholarship. Becoming a great leader takes time and experience to cultivate. It means creating a path forward inspiring myself and others to be the best they can be. I believe that I would be an excellent Schulich Leader because I want to make a difference by helping others. With the resources that would be provided to me by being a Schulich leader, I would be able to help others to the maximum of my abilities.
“Set,” Bang! The gun goes off and I quickly shoot ahead of the rest of the field. My strides long and quick as I sprint for the track. I can’t hear anyone behind me, I must be a good 10 meters in front of everyone else. I run around the track and continue to sprint across the field back to the crowd of parents, friends, and girls soccer players who were forced to attend this last cross country meet of the season.
To never give up on my dreams, even when the odds are against you, keep moving forward. Her motivation is the reason why I didn’t give up after my junior year of high school when everything seemed to fall apart. I became extremely depressed with my life. During my junior year of high school everything came crashing down. As my brothers enjoyed the college life.

Therefore, I had a big problem with my English since I did not speak English back then which made my first year very hard with struggles to get good grades. That is what made me into a better student because with bitter experiences I or anyone tends to grow and get better. It took me about one year to speak English well and understands what is going on. Thus After tasting the bitter experience of having a big struggle I started to get straight A’s in all my classes in my sophomore year up until now which made my GPA get better and better after my struggles in my first year at school in the United States. I always feel accomplished whenever I make an achievement making people recognize my hard work and talents feels satisfying which makes me more determined to achieve more in my college career.
My top five strengths include relator, adaptability, strategic, competition, and focus. When getting the results back from my Gallup strengths report I couldn’t believe how well it described me. First is relator, because of my strengths I have friends that come to me for guidance, suggestions, or recommendations and it makes me feel great to be able to help them. I feel really good about life when people give me credit for reducing difficult-to-understand ideas to more learnable forms. My second strength is adaptability.

I believe that I should be defined by neither my sexuality nor my ethnicity. I do not think that neither one is an accurate description of the person I am. I think those two things make me who I am, but they do not define whom I am. I think how I practice my beliefs in my everyday life define who I am. The way I choose to live my life on my own terms defines who I am.
Fear and lack of confidence is something that everyone experiences, but facing it can create opportunities one would never imagine. I would have never thought this one year ago, and I even have to remind myself today that fear has become a strong motivator for myself. My lack of confidence in my abilities has helped me become the leader I am today. Throughout high school I have struggled with confidence, but in various ways.
