Teen suicide is very real and serious problem, not only in Malaysia but also in many other countries around the world. We may not know exactly why young people seek to take their own lives but it is a tragic way of reacting to stressful situation and life. It is therefore important and helpful if we can recognise the possible reasons why young people would commit suicide in order to help them. Support from family and friends are tops of list. One of most important things parents can do is to take time to listen with their child constantly, with love and understanding. This would mean that parents must not be too busy with their own work so that they can spend more quality time with their children. Suicidal person needs to clearly know that our family and friends are caring and willing to listen your feelings. We can often help and support as much as we can but we are not to control suicidal person. He or she willingly make a personal commitment to cooperate and work toward recovery. While listening to their feelings of a teenager with suicidal tendency, we must never keep secret his suicidal plan or though. In other words, we must seek help for someone who has experience to handle this situation. For example, we can seek help from the person’s doctor and counseling teacher in school. Therefore, family and friends support is an effective way to help the suicidal person and they will never be left alone under any
“A sense of hope and something to live for is what teens need. They also need a way to raise their self-esteem. When they look at this world and see it through a hopeless window, there is nothing that will make them want to stay in it,” said Dan Snarr, a Skyline High science teacher. Suicide among teens is a recurring issue in today's world. The article “Suicide - Killing the teens & young people in America” written by Christopher Wager discusses the hopelessness that teens feel that leads them to commit suicide.
When children express they want to die after a suicide we need to talk about it in school because it is important to explain to them that they don’t actually want to die but see the victim again. As an individual can see about 12 people die from suicide every day in Canada and when a child is close to the victim they are greatly
Keiski acknowledges that, “Individual therapy with a psychologist or psychiatrist is probably the most common form of treatment for people suffering from any sort of depression or need help through a crisis.” (95). In most cases, suicide is a result of how lonely the victim may feel since they may not fully receive the love and care they deserve. Hence, it is important that professional caretakers reach out to them since they may feel too embarrassed of their negative thoughts. Directly connecting to this idea, most times family members and friends are not too sure about how to address this with the victim since they do not really know how to help.
“The one place of connection that has the potential to be most stable for all children, teens, and adults alike is the family environment.” Teen suicide has many reasons behind it, some people may not know. Based on Judith Peacock’s research on the subject, “No one is sure why more teens today are taking their own life” (Peacock pg.1). More suicides have been happening without explanation…. Or maybe the answer has always been under our noses.
As of 2015, 5 in 100,000 girls and 14 in 100,000 teenagers commit suicide (Lewis). Teenagers are becoming more vulnerable and schools seem to be taking no notice. If these lives could be saved, it would help so many families across the united states. The National Institute of Mental Health states that there “are as many as 25 attempts of suicide to every one that is actually committed” (Eco Child’s Play). Suicides can be prevented by treatment of the illness.
Intro-hook: Imagine your loved one unexpectedly commits suicide. Your mother, your father, your sister, or your brother. A mental illness such as depression can lead to someone taking their life. Suicide. The action of killings oneself intentionally. A word synonymous with despair and tragedy, this act may be taken due to several reasons but if focused on a particular demographic, such as college students, the reasons may be clearer. It is widely accepted that causes of suicides are largely (if not completely) mentally related. With high amounts of stress and pressure coupled with ever amounting expectations on still developing minds, it does not seem difficult to correlate why the rates of suicide among college students is steadily increasing.
Suicide has continued to rise as one of the leading causes of death worldwide (Suicide). Each year, no matter what the cause is, 44,193 people in the U.S. are taking their own life. And in most cases, the young people die from hanging” according to Bullycide: Bullying Related Suicides. Children are more likely to see of experience bullying when they are in middle school or junior high. Because of their exposure, they are harmed in any way or form.
Over the years the issue of suicide has been slowly increasing. It is now the third leading cause of death among young people. The effects of suicide are tragic and felt long after the individual has taken their own life. Some people who consider suicide, however, never make a “serious” attempt at it. For every attempted suicide, there is said to be more than one person whose thought of suicide has never translated into an actual attempt.
Suicide is a dominant cause of death among teenagers and young adults. The rate of suicides and suicide attempts increases from time to time.
