Why Families Are Important Why are families important? What are families? Who is a part of your family? What does your family do for you? Families are important for a lot of different reasons. A family is someone, usually related by blood who loves you unconditionally and will always be there for you. Families do a lot of different things for you to help prepare you for life and become the best person that you can be. Families are important because they are your very first and usually strongest relationship. Your family will always be there for you to help you in any way, they are your support system. They provide you with the simple things at the beginning like learning to speak, read and write. Over the years, their beliefs and personalities can influence your beliefs and the changes in your personality. For example: I grew up in a house where we bleed Husker Red. For as long as I can remember, during college football season my whole family would all hang out and scream for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The same thing with the Duke University Boys Basketball Team, my uncle Mike, my cousin Nicole and I are diehard Duke fans. My family influenced my opinions on sports, politics, religion and so many more things. That is very important because they help you find yourself and the things that you like. They will also help you develop your very own, unique personality. They will bring out sides of you that you didn’t know you had until they have made you very happy, upset, or even angry. A lot of families have little traditions that they keep. Traditions can be anything from birthday parties to vacations, or even something simple like eating dinner together or going to church as a family once a week. For example, my family has birthday parties, we used to go to Disneyland, we all get together and play cards or bunco at the 4th of July, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years.
