According to the dictionary definition, history is the study of past events, more specifically connected to human affairs. Academically, history is an umbrella term that encompasses so many different fields of study. There is the old proverb that reads, “you can 't know where you 're going if you don 't know where you have been. For me, history is like that. When you take history and combine it with myth, then you get mystery”, as pointed out by Ashwin Sanghi. What each and one of them have in common is the goal of tracking narratives of past events and analyzing the patterns that emerge as a way to provide perspective on our past. Studying the events of the past give us an understanding of how the world came to be and how it will be in the future. By learning about the causes and effects of events in history, people can learn in better ways to deal with conflict among nations and individuals. Studying the history of environmental changes can enhance a healthier lifestyle for mankind, as well as prevent the extinction of plants and animals, which could disturb our ecosystems. Although human behavior is unpredictable at times, a better understanding through the study of history can provide valuable insight for our future generations. And also improve the living standard of the people. Jackie Robinson's number, 42, was retired by Major League Baseball on April 15, 1997, the 50th anniversary of Robinson’s breaking of the league’s color barrier. It was the first number to be retired from all teams in Major League Baseball. He did not only do that he opened many good opportunities for african american not only in sports. Today we are comparing and contrasting two different stories but yet almost alike. The first story is about the great Pilgrims and how they had to flee their country because of religion problems .The other story is about Skookrullah Alizadah and how her and her family had to flee their country also. They sound the same but there story are very different from each other. The reason they had to flee their country and how the traveled to their other home and how they had to survive with a little bit of food and shelter to live.

Historiography is the study of how history is written and the different perspectives of the past provided by different historians. Revolutions and wars are main events that historians love to pick apart due to so many different point of views or conclusions that they can assume. The Loyalists position on the revolution was, “...more sympathetic to Britain and more antagonistic to those responsible for the revolution” (American Revolution Historiography). Whig historians on the other hand, saw the revolution as a journey of progress and advancement. The Progressives, a new breed of historians, said that the revolution was based by economic factors and self interest.

I think if more people knew all the accurate things about history, it would be found quite more enjoyable, making them want to learn it. Resulting in all future generations having a correct outlook on American history. One point I found especially interesting was about the work done on the Panama Canal. The Canal was built to open in 1914, a time when the world had limited electricity. The structure of the canal is still holding up unquestionably well still with how it was put together, maybe even better than it could have been constructed today.
Usually the information conversed in history classes reflect the building blocks of what is occurring in our society and world of today.
