The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Should be Banned From Schools In school are students supposed to learn about bad language and how to treat people poorly?The fiction novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain should be removed from schools. Twain writes about serious topics as a satire so many people do not realize the intensity. The language, alcoholism, violence, lying, and breaking the law are a few reasons for this novel to be banned from schools. Mark Twain writes about many questionable subjects but does so as a satire which makes it slightly more acceptable. Huck has good morals and is very openminded. Huck struggles with self identity because he is not treated well by white people but is treated well by Jim. These …show more content…

Huck considers Jim a friend and helps him even though it is against the law. Any other white person would immediately turn Jim in. Huck says, “And then think of ME! It would get all around that Huck Finn helped a nigger to get his freedom; and if I was ever to see anybody from that town again I 'd be ready to get down and lick his boots for shame. That 's just the way: a person does a low-down thing, and then he don 't want to take no consequences of it, (Twain, 163).” Huck knows that what he did was against the law and there are consequences for his actions. In the South, slavery was horrific and taken very far. Huck may have good morals and want to do the right thing but that does not mean he always does. Him faking his death and breaking the law to help a runaway slave are two perfect reasons for this book to be banned in schools. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn should be banned from schools because it has bad language, alcoholism, violence, lying, and breaking the law. The novel’s protagonist is a young boy who causes a lot of trouble and sets a bad example for other students reading. If this novel continues to be taught at schools it could confuse the reader in knowing what is right and wrong in real
