Should we have homework or not? I think we shouldn’t have homework because we can just learn from teachers. When we get homework sometimes we get stressed because we have other things to do. I think we shouldn’t have homework because interferes with family and is time consuming, stresses kids, and homework doesn’t show any benefits to learning. All in all, homework is time consuming, and if kids like to hang out with family and friends after school they can’t because they have homework. According to Robert Marzano homework must be realistic in length and the amount of difficulty given to students should be easy enough for them to do the work. The amount of time should be limited to only 30 to 60 minutes. I think that this would not be too bad if that is all the time I have to spend on homework. Another reason is that you will be stressed out. When you get a lot of homework your just worried about not getting it all done before school the next day. Some kids just want to get it done so they will just guess on the answers. When the teacher teaches you how to do it in class you know how to do it until you get home. When you start to work on it your stressing because you forgot …show more content…

Homework is a term used to describe assignments given to students by their teacher to be completed outside regular class period. Some people say that homework is necessary for student success, but it actually has no academic benefits and has negatively effects on children life; therefore, it must be abolished. In order to support my view, I did research on two articles “End Homework Now” (2001) by Etta Karlovac and John Buell and “Moving with the Brain in Mind” (2000) by Eric Jensen both articles display that the negative effects of homework outweigh its positive effects. Furthermore, the articles discuss how smaller class size, by engaging students in great variety of exercises, impact their overall moods and ability to learn. The main
According to “The Homework Myth” by Alfie Kohn, the writer has given some reasons to show the truth about homework; missing out on their childhoods, does homework improve learning? and does homework provide nonacademic
They cannot concentrate, especially at school, with too much homework. A student’s mind should stay focused and calm. They should rest, if rest enough so that they can work with energy. The student should be given a certain amount of work so that they can be prepared if a test or an exam is near.
The school use to start at 9am and it gets over at 3pm and then there is a tutoring program which running from 5pm to 8pm. The homework isn’t to bad because sometimes the teachers make us do it during class time and working on the homework with friends as a team work use to be fun. In the article “Down With Homework” the author says “Overwhelms struggling kids and removes joy for high achievers” I disagree on this statement because homework is a part of confidence and helps us to improve in our daily basis studies and keeps us on track. The idea that overall about homework it helps children to learn better and give them a better understanding of what they are learning in the daily
Why Students Shouldn’t Have Homework There are around 365 days in a year, and in a school year, there are around 180 days. From the beginning of the school year to the end, the most common thing that students least like, is homework. Coming home after a long day of school, then having responsibilities to do at home, not to mention some students have after school activities which take up around 2 hours if not more. Homework for students is a barrier that makes it difficult for them to have any kind of social life, or spend time with their family. There are many reasons why students shouldn’t have homework, during this essay people will learn why having homework isn’t helping the student, except making things more difficult for them.
Students who have a growing hate for homework may think that “Repeating the same problems over and over is boring, difficult, and only reinforces the practice of discipline” (20 pros and cons). Repetition is not always the correct path to take students down to get them to like something or make them better at something. Teaching them fun and non stressful information is the correct way. Work after school should be used in a beneficial way rather than being stressful and
In conclusion, kids should have homework. Paragraph Two - Reason One On http://blog.eskool.ca/parenting/why-homework-is-important/ its says in its first column that having homework can improve a child´s thinking and memory skills. This is important because
One more reason why American students should receive less homework is that students who have a lot of homework, tend to get overwhelmed and they won 't even attempt to complete their work. Anne Michaud of Newsday makes an argument by saying, “Cutting back on homework can make the difference in whether some students even attempt the assignment” (84). This quote shows that assigning less homework can be a major factor to if the students make an attempt to complete the homework. Students can get very overwhelmed when facing endless homework and some of these students might not even attempt to complete the homework because there is too much. Cutting back on homework will make students less overwhelmed and more motivated to complete the homework.
Over recent years, the debate has gotten more attention as to whether students should have homework as homework has seemed to increase. Students having homework does not benefit them in their academic skills and should be abolished. In countries like Japan and Denmark, the students don’t have much homework, but exceed the United States on international tests. A lot of tests have proven that homework does not help improve a student’s performance of skills.
Homework is like a boat with a hole in its side if there is a leak in the boat then the boat is useless. The water will rush in and fill the boat with cold, dark water. The same goes for homework, it is useless. All the nights kids spend with hours and hours of homework, all the tears and stress are not helping kids in school. Numerous amounts of today's kids have excessive amounts of homework.
A counter argument most adults may say homework will encourage the students to use time wisely. Students should know not to mess around or procrastinate in order to get things done. On the contrary side of that statement, students should have time to rest and have free time to keep a stable and healthy life. As well as students should live life while they are young and learn about adulthood later in
The effect of this is that homework does not increase the understanding of the material in class. Clearly, schools should not assign homework, since it can lead to problems at the other end of the
Almost everyday, students get buried with homework. The homework given is basically useless to many yet still taken for a grade. It is often believed that if homework is not taken for a grade anymore, then students will not do it causing them to score bad on their tests and their grades as a whole. However, in Dhahran High School Saudi Arabia, homework is counted as a learning behavior grade and not achievement. Due to this many do not do homework as often but study their own ways or work on their hobbies.
According to Harris Cooper, homework can help with the expansion of personal responsibility. This implies that kids will become more and more responsible over the years with homework. Furthermore, homework can also lead to good study habits. This tells us that in the future with homework kids will have developed great studying skills. Also, when doing homework kids are building good time management skills.
Above all, homework allows the students to gain responsibility, time-management, perseverance, and self-esteem. “The act of completing homework has benefits in terms of developing good habits in students.” This shows that, students are gaining many skills from homework. This also shows that, homework isn’t a waste of time and students do benefit from homework. “Homework also teaches students how to problem solve, think independently, and build an understanding and interest for the issues in our society.”
