“In fall 2017, some 20.4 million students are expected to attend American colleges and universities, constituting an increase of about 5.1 million since fall 2000” (National Center for Educational Statistics) With the spiking increase of people going into college from high school it means colleges are going to need to be more picky with their choice of students, and the cost of tuition is going to increase as well. However, those aspects should not cast a shadow over the communities these colleges hold. Schools such as Rockland Community College, SUNY Oswego, and the International Culinary Center are places I’ve considered going after high school. Admission requirements can range from your GPA, Act, Sat, or even prior experiences. At SUNY Oswego, website collegeboard stresses that both a student's Grade point average and their high school record are important. There is a clear competition for getting into this school, which is important to note because of the 11,000 students that apply around around only 5,000 are actually admitted (CollegeBoard) Some other characteristics considered by Oswego according to collegeboard are ones work experience, volunteer work, ethnic status, and recommendations from others. Rockland Community College actually has open admission, which means that is has no requirements pertaining towards GPA, or completing tests such as an Act or Sat. However students must have they’re high school diploma in order to apply. (CollegeBoard) When Applying to the International Culinary Center, must follow the specific application process which involves proof of medical records and a high school diploma, Coupled with being a fluent English speaker. (International Culinary Center) Based on what I’ve discussed I’d have to say that Both RCC and ICC would be realistic and plausible options in terms of being admitted, with Suny Oswego following behind as the hardest option considering the odds compared to the
