I sometimes ask students why they came to The United States. For instance one young lady was from China. She had a bachelor’s degree, worked in an office, had her own car, and I got the impression her family was fairly well-off. When I asked her why she left her friends, family, culture, and what sounded like a comfortable and satisfying way of life she replied, “Safety, security.” I asked, “Why, what were you afraid of?” “The government,” she answered. A young couple from Mexico told me they came here so their children would be exposed to more opportunities. A woman from Russia told me that the only way you can get more than the next person in her country is by paying someone with a position to allow you get ahead. She said, “Here in America you can get what ever you want, and be anything you want, just because you have the ability to do so. A young man from Brazil said he had no home. He lived on the streets. He said he was always in fear of his life from the police. He road on top of the “La Bestia,” the immigrant train. It is a 1,450 mile trek with a real danger of falling off, as hundreds, and possible thousands have, and the danger of being robbed, raped, or murdered by the Mexican gang known as MS13. I guess he saw the possibilities of danger getting to the
With this said, most who are migrating internationally are seeking economic opportunities. In 1889, a geographer named Georg Ravenstien wrote in his Laws of Migration, “Bad or oppressive laws, heavy taxation, an unattractive climate, uncongenial social surroundings, and even compulsion… All have produced
The freedom of religion grants citizens to practice whatever religion they please. The government cannot favor one religion over another, or treat people differently because of what religion they practice. Many countries will only tolerate certain religion, but because of the first amendment, our country does not discriminate against other religions. The freedom of speech makes sure that citizens can speak out against the government and say what we believe. We can speak
“Around the world 59 million children of primary school age are being denied an education, and almost 65 million adolescents are without access to a secondary school,” (Doc 6). The education received throughout a childhood determines how the future will be for the new generation. Because so many people do not have an education, when they get older, it is damaging their life and the world as a whole. People are denied an education because of where they live, who they are, and how much money they have. In the Victorian Era, for most kids it was a money issue. Less than half the population could not read or write and many children died before they became adults. In the Great Expectations, Pip and many children he lived near had this problem. Although Pip became a gentleman he struggled for he did not receive the proper education for his future.
Education is the backbone to society. A society that is uneducated cannot think rationally. The education of youth guarantees our future. It is the foundation and the building block which ensures each generation will succeed when they reach adulthood. Success as a student is influenced by both internal and external forces. Internal forces, such as mental and physical health, along with external forces such as the length of the school year and day, and parental involvement will have a major impact on a student’s success in education.
Being a US citizen has its perks, but knowing the amendments to the Constitution is something every citizen should consider, especially the first. Freedom of speech is one of the most important. If people want to share their opinions on how the government is doing, they are able to do so without the fear of getting in trouble with the law. It’s also a way to defend one’s self from courts but in an unharmful way. Freedom of religion is another right to the amendment that is also very important. Freedom of religion is the choice whether a person decides to practice a religion or not. When people are allowed to have freedom of religion, it makes living in the US better due to the fact that not many other countries have this type of practice. Freedom
Just as equally important as the freedom of religion is the freedom of speech. Some people think this means you can say whatever you want whenever you want like, yelling “FIRE” when there is no fire. This is not freedom of speech, it actually means, “stops the government from making any laws that stops us from saying what we feel and think.”. Perhaps the most underrated freedom is the freedom of assembly. This means that “American citizens have the right to come together in private and public gatherings.” Without this freedom we wouldn’t be able to go to things like social gatherings, church, or a sports game. The next freedom is the right to petition. According to kidlaws.com it means American citizens “can ask for adjustments or changes in government.” one way you can petition is by collecting signitures and sending they to an

Immigration are people from all over the country who come here to have a better life & get better jobs so they can provide for their families. They move from one country to another one because life wasn’t easy in their country. Some come for a couple of years & then leave & some come to live here forever. If they stay forever they have to take a test to earn their citizenship. In the United States we give chances to people in other countries to come over here in the land of the free to have a better chance at life. Immigrants only leave their native countries for a reasons like; a lack of local access to resources, a desire for economic prosperity, family re-unification, escape from prejudice, conflict or natural disaster, or simply the wish to change one 's surroundings. Every year the United States has more & more immigrants come over to stay for good or just for a little while. They come from all over the world & some even come just because they want to come. They have no reason sometimes but most reason always be because of a family or too much going on in their old country. Immigrants sometimes don’t have the chances & stuff that they can get from coming to the United States then in their own country. Some countries have dictators & they try to escape that by coming to the United States but we also have some families that come to stay for good that only come to give their kids a better chance in life. A violation of a State 's immigration laws a person who is declared
Our family can only eat whatever we grow on a small plot of land located a short way from our house. We have no other form of income so if we are unable to pick anything to eat from the land we go without food on that day. This happens a lot and we regularly go several days without any food at all. When we do pick vegetables from the land it’s very rarely enough for the whole family to be fed so my husband and I have to decide who will eat that day. You can see my younger children crying a lot, it’s because they are so hungry.”“The only source of water for our family is a shallow well situated near to our field. The water is very dirty and the children regularly get sick

Freedom of religion is the right to believe in your religion of choice. Congress is forbidden to control what religion you are to believe in. This is important, because before this amendment was published, people could get in big trouble for not believing in the religion that they are told to believe in. If they didn't have the freedom of religion I
I believe that the freedom of religion means that we have a right to choose to practice religion as long as we do not infringe the rights on others. The First Amendment prevents the law from interfering with religion. The main powers of the government are prohibited from intentionally interfering with the freedom of individuals to practice their religion. So basically this means that any practices that is considered sacred to religions can be protected. And when the time came of the law of free exercise principle came about was when the argument of it being used as excuses to the
