Alexander the great is considered one of the greatest leaders known to man. When Alexander was only twenty years old he inherited an empire that included the kingdom of Macedonia and the city-states of Greece. He dreamed of gaining more land in the Persian empire. He achieved his dream when he was only thirty years old but died a short time later. Alexander should be considered great. First, Alexander should be considered great because he was a fair leader. Document D is an example of this because when crossing a desert,a group of Alexander’s soldiers retrieved a small amount of water and gave it to Alexander who dumped it out because all of his army couldn 't drink so neither would he. This shows that Alexander was great because he didn’t
In addition, in the Legend of the Hat Band, he rewarded an innocent person who had done a service to him by killing him, showing that he relied so much on the legends that he was willing to kill a loyal soldier because it was thought that he might be a threat. He cared so much about legends that he was willing to sacrifice one of his own men. This does not seem like the act of someone ethical or wise as a great leader should be. A third reason that Alexander should not be considered great is that he used brutal methods to conquer land.
Despite Alexander not being politically great, society remembers him as great because of his military prowess
Without their trust, Alexander would not have achieved as much as he did. These examples show that Alexander was great because they provided insight into what Alexander achieved. He had to work hard to gain the people’s trust. It all paid off when he was able to say that he was the greatest leader of his time. Today, everyone wants a trustworthy leader.
Alexander was arguably one of the greatest military leaders of all time. One example of his great leadership skills is when he defeated Darius III while he was outnumbered five to one. “As it became clear Alexander would win the battle, Darius fled with what remained of his troops, leaving his wife and family behind”(“Alexander the Great”). He also created the largest empire the world at that time. Only the best of
The people who were conquered believe that he was brutal and relentless. Based on the information, Alexander was a great military leader and a great king. In the first part of document A, it takes the conquerors perspective of how great Alexander was. It states that he treated some of the rebels with compassion.
In conclusion, these three factors are proof that Alexander was not as excellent as historians try to prove him to
Was Alexander the Great really great? Based on his remarkable achievement, leadership, and concern for others, Alexander the Great was great. Alexander was great for his large empire, his influence, and his generosity to others. One reason that Alexander was great is his large empire. At just the age of 20, Alexander set off to conquer Persia.
Alexander The Great’s title of “The Great” was not an exaggeration. To earn the title of “The Great”, you must've done some extremely good things as your reign as a king, queen, or emperor. Alexander The Great did many great and powerful things during his lifetime. He established an extremely powerful military, and he knew how to strategically conquer land, and he was interested in turning this conquered land into powerful areas.
He was known and still is known as Alexander the Great, till today. To say, Alexander’s empire was 2,000,000 square miles (Document E) after his death and it took him 11 years (Document E) to build his empire (took so much time). Unfortunately, his empire held together only for 10 years (Document E) after his death, which was a very short time. As we know, he was a very intelligent military leader.
At the young age of 20 Alexander took over his fathers kingdom and went on to conquer over 2,000,000 square miles of land. Alexander was born in 356 BCE in the Macedonia kingdom, his parents were King Philip and Olympia. From when he was little Aristotle was giving him private lessons on politics, sports, and warfare. After his father shared his dreams of conquering Persia he was assassinated in 336 BCE. Alexander took rule over the kingdom and lead the army.
His empire collapsed not long after (Background Essay). Due to his role in the world when he was alive, Alexander the Great’s greatness should be measured
(Green, document C). Alexander may have just destroyed a city for his empire, but he showed concern by sparing the lives of those who took refuge. This proves that Alexander shows concern because the least he could do in the situation was make sure the victims were okay, and he did that. He spared the lives of the victims who took refuge. Clearly, there are reasons Alexander could be considered not great, but he shows outstanding qualities that prove
He was not great because he didn’t show concern for others, leadership, or intelligence. Alexander the Great was not the best because of his mass amounts of murder, not much care for his soldiers, and his poor ability to lead. The first reason Alexander the Great is not amazing because of the mass amount of murder he committed. One example is during the battle at Tyre, once Alexander’s army broke into the city they went on a ferocious killing spree (Doc C). Alexander had ordered anyone that was not inside the temple to be slain and he killed seven thousand Tyrians.
First of all, one reason that Alexander was great was because he was a military genius. He was a genius because he conquered so much land and did not stop. In document B it states, “That Alexander made a plan to trick Porus by acting like he was going over the river by making
Glorious men have graced the earth and have left significant impressions on the following generations. Alexander the Great suits that profile like none other. As arguably one of the most influential military leaders in history, Alexander conquered the majority of the known world, including large-scale empires such as the Persian. Succeeding his father, Philip II, to the throne at the age of 20, Alexander commanded an already skilled military, which he schooled further in the beginning of his reign. Even militarily significant empires had no chance against Alexander 's military brilliance and so he constructed one of the largest empires in history.
