Others will state that many animals are left to die in terminal labs. They will even say that some animals are pronounced dead while they are alive. They are then thrown in a pile of carcasses with deceased animals. Many state the animals are killed after being performed on, and not cared for. Some say required courses are essentially slaughtering 100s of animals a week.
Millions upon millions of animals are killed mercilessly every year due to these experiments. “Most animal experiments are not relevant to human health, they do not contribute meaningfully to medical advances and many are undertaken simply out of curiosity and do not even pretend to hold promise for curing illnesses” (Animal). Not only does this testing waste animal lives, but humans as well. Because animal testing is so ineffective, many humans have contracted illness, irritations, mental problems, etc. because of these drugs being successful on animals and not humans.
Later tests on pregnant mice, rats, guinea pigs, cats, and hamsters did not result in birth defects unless the drug was administered at extremely high doses. Animal tests on the arthritis drug Vioxx showed that it had a protective effect on the hearts of mice, yet the drug went on to cause more than 27,000 heart attacks and sudden cardiac deaths before being pulled from the market. It should stop because if we keep killing animals millions a year after awhile they will start becoming extinct. Some people might argue that god gave us animals to have to eat and use for purposes on earth like testing; but others will saying we are also here and what's the difference between us and animals.
Each year about 70,000 people are severely disabled or killed from unexpected reactions that passed animal testing. This evidence shows that the results of animal testing are inaccurate. A pain reliever called vioxx was shown to protect the heart of lab animals but in 139,000 people it was linked to heart attacks and strokes. A thorough study proved 88% of stillbirth are caused by drugs that passed animal testing (33 reasons why animal testing is pointless). In conclusion animals and humans do not react the same, therefor animal testing is inaccurate and
The practice has granted a new life to hopelessly ill patients, modified medicines and made the surgeries fruitfully creative. New alternatives to this practice are in making, but considering the rate at which doctors are fully developing them, the society is still years away from bringing up something that can totally eradicate the traditional animal experimentation. Just like every other scientific practices, animal experimentation, too, becomes a success only after many trials and errors, causing a loss of few innocent animal lives. However, those numbers do not seem as a burning concern when compared to other industries that depend on animals. According to statistics, food animals kill 56 billion animals in the USA which largely differed from the 25 million of animal experimentation (Laws and Regulations).
This happens to animals everyday as a result of animal testing. Tons of animals die every year in our country and even across the globe because of animal testing. Animal testing should be stopped because testing is considered cruel, unreliable, and animals can suffer just like humans. To begin, animal death occurs every year in the U.S. According to PETA’s article “Animal Testing 101”, Approximately 100 million animals or more suffer and die throughout the U.S. every year in harsh chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics test (PETA.org).
Primary Knowledge Claim: Seeing that there is a big number of people accepting that it is acceptable to test on animals I think: I think it is ethically wrong to have animals being experimented for the betterment. 25 million animals are experimented on for biomedical researches, science education (dissecting heart, where animals are dead) and cosmetics (for mascaras and liquid liners), every year in the US. Rabbits are being tested on for shampoos and other products, which causes an irritation and are forced to have their eyelids helped open by clips. They can’t blink for multiple days until the test is over. 50% of the animals are killed by the Lethal dose test, which in this test you are able to find out what chemical is involved in the product.
Nevertheless, a higher percentage of animals are killed because of being neglected by farmers, while only a small percentage of animal deaths are caused in laboratory experiments by scientists. These animals on farms are also killed and suffer for food. The highlighted reason of why some people are focusing on the animals that are suffer and killed in scientific experiments and not on these who have been slaughtered by farmers is that they consider farmers harder to attack compared with scientists who are not. For every 1 animal killed and suffer due to a scientific experiment 99 animals are killed and suffer on farms for abuse, neglect or slaughter
The methods of testing are unethical or give suspect at best. People did not name their kid to keep from being attached. They did that because he / she could of died of a whooping cough. Animal testing saves more lives than it harms. People should get animal
Animal testing has always been a controversial and emotive topic. Each year, millions of innocent animals suffer and die in cruel chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics tests, as well as in biology lessons, medical training exercises, and curiosity-driven medical experiments at universities (“PETA Makes Its Case Against Animal Testing” 3). Think of any drug, cosmetic or household cleaner. Chances are, at one time or another, an animal suffered in order to put that product on the shelf. As many as 800 animals are sometimes tested, experts note, before a drug is determined to be safe enough to proceed to a clinical trial (“Animal Testing” 2).
Research done on animals has caused medical leaps in discovering information about medicine, biology, and psychology. Testing on animals can inform people on the effects of environmental dangers such as pollution or radiation. The animals that are tested on usually have similar inner anatomy as humans but are different in some aspects, which can vary the results of testing. This makes the results useless and the animal then dies for nothing(animal rights). Many people may think the food they eat are killed humanely.
In fact, the animals are often stored in small cages or spaces with barley any room to move, many will catch a disease from their poor quality of living. Social interaction is crucial because the animals become tired of the same environment, this leads to aggression. To control the aggression, animals are often pumped with drugs. Often, if an animal is sick there will be no veterinary help because of the high cost that is required, as a result, cattle have died from dehydration or other reasons regarding the lack of care. Because the animals are seen as a profit they are bred in a way that is convenient for the slaughterhouse.
3. Approximately there are 10 million animals used in crude classroom dissection exercise in the U.S., vet schools ' abuse an estimated 20 million animals for cruel, archaic teaching exercises. Roughly 50% of them die and used in classroom dissection. According to “navs.org,” while the exact number is unknown, dissection requires the killing of an estimated 6-12 million animals annually in the U.S. According to “peta.org” vet schools capture more than 1 million frogs in their natural habitats every year for dissection.
