Before the airplane was able to make across the Atlantic Ocean it would take a boat nearly a week to cross the Atlantic. In the 1920’s people were thinking about a transatlantic flight, and that is when businessman raymond Orteig issued a reward of $25,000 for the first crew to fly from New York to Paris (Lindbergh). In 1927 Charles Lindbergh even with all odds against him flew a plane called The Spirit of St. Louis from New York to Paris and won the Orteig prize of $25,000. This event is what got charles Lindbergh known not just in the aviation community, but all over the world. He became a hero, but he wasn’t just a pilot. Charles Lindbergh was an outspoken isolationist and was against American involvement in World War II. Charles Lindbergh was the leader of the American first committee which was a group of 800,000 people who were against American Involvement in World War II. Charles Lindbergh was also an environmentalist, and he spoke out about how modern technology was affecting the world and animals. He campaigned for environmental groups such as the World Wildlife Fund, the Nature Conservancy, and the Union for Conservation of Nature. He fought against endangered species such as the blue and humpback whales and eagles. Charles Lindbergh even helped found the Haleakala National Park in Hawaii. Langston Hughes was born on February 1, 1902 in Joplin, Missouri. He was born into the African culture and grew up in his home town with his mother and father. Although he grew up as a child mostly with his grandparents rather than his parents. His mother and father split up when he was such a young age, they split and his dad moved away. His mother traveled around to find a job and his dad moved to Mexico leaving Langston with his grandmother.

After the war in 1947 Yeager was assigned to test the rocket powered deadly x-1 jet. Later in 1947, Chuck blew everybody’s minds in the x-1 jet he broke the sound barrier on October 14 1947 of an altitude of 45,000 feet, this “achievement” if that’s what you want to call it was held a secret in till around 1948 once it hit public airwaves Yeager became one of the biggest celebrities at the time. He also received a reward called the Collier trophy which called his flight “the greatest achievement since the Wright brothers took flight in 1903”.

Langston Hughes, both mother and father divorced while he was a young child forcing him to relocate with his father to Mexico. His grandmother raised Hughes until the age of thirteen, when he relocated once again to Lincoln, Illinois, to live with his mother and husband who would ultimately settle once and for all in Cleveland, Ohio. While Hughes was living in Ohio he began writing poetry. Hughes citied Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Carl Sandburg, and Walt Whitman as some of his main inspirations.
