After the war, the British planned to give citizenship to the migrant workers who stayed in Malaya throughout the war. However the Malays, seeing themselves as the native race of Malaya, did not agree to this and so the Chinese and Indian migrant workers did not get their citizenship. This led to one of the reason why the MCP started their campaign of fighting against the British. Their main reason for starting their campaign was to drive out British Imperialism and let Malaya became independent under a communist rule. The British also knew that the MCP was getting all their resources from the farmers living near the edges of the forest. Also, most of the people who joined the MCP were workers in factories, these workers were mainly from mainland China. These workers are basically fighting for citizenship. Citizenship to these workers means a lot to them, some privileges that they could gain from gaining a citizenship is the ability to vote, thus the right to have citizenship is very important to them. Since granting independence to Malaya would in turn allow these workers to gain citizenship that they always yearn for, most of the them who help the MCP would thus stop helping since what they have been fighting for is starting to be implemented. This means that with the British granting independence and citizenship to Malaya and the Malayans respectively, most of the goals of the MCP have already been met. Since the goals were already accomplished, many of the workers in the MCP decided to stop with their campaigns and they left the MCP. Therefore, granting Malaya independence was already planned by the British and not affected by the actions of the
Even though they wanted to be British they did not want the British to have so much control over them. Colonial soldiers always knew they were below the British soldiers (Doc D). The feeling of superiority strained the colonies relationship with the British but helped the colonies unite. The colonies began to share ideas and interact with one another. After the war the British feeling towards the colonies strained their relationship.
Politically, the war caused certain limitations towards the colonists from the British empire. Economically, the British passed acts that imposed
There are a lot of turning point that led to the revolutionary war. Every act that the king signed and put intoto effect plus the actions of the red coats fueled the colonies motivation to start a revolution . The four major reasons were the stamp act, Tea act ,common sense by Thomas paine, declaration of independence The stamp act 1765 was the first direct tax put on the British colonies in North America (DOC.A). The colonies were not fond of the stamp act they had no say in what the tax should be on nor what it should be spent on.
Peel realised that the needs of his country were more important than the narrow interests of a minority within his own party. Fundamentally Peel put the nation before the party, which may seem like a betrayal to his party but what
How could the colonies political objectives be achieved by force of arms? Even though the British army was more experienced and better trained, the Americans soon realized they had too much land for Britain to take over. They used the land to their advantage by letting the British army take over the ports, but the Americans had the rest of the land. The Americans also had the French on their side. The British army was surprised how skilled the Americans were during the war.
This was easy for the British because of the pressure the Native Americans faced due to the expansion of America. During the war, Americans called for an invasion of Canada mostly because of the support the British were giving Native Americans in the northwest. The last cause of the war were the War Hawks, a nickname was given to Republicans who wanted to go to war with Britain. Many of them had just been elected into office and wanted to change the direction of the country.
Betrayer’ of his party, however as mentioned previously Peel’s opinion was ‘Not can you turn out a government! But, Can you keep in any government, and stave off confusion’. Peel was a man who acted upon the interests of the nation and its people, not upon the direct interests of his party’s backbenchers. As seen, there were many incidences where Peel acted against the rest of his party and would defy the conventional means of staying in power, incidences where it seemed Peel was heading down a blind alley and it was inevitable that his decisions would cause the collapse of his party, yet he would still manage to emerge somewhat successful. This happened on a number of occasions and according to Norman Gash, ‘How people behave in a crisis is often determined not by immediate issues and arguments, since these may point to more than one line of action, but pre-existing
They demolished homes of the British officials, threatened and daunted tax collectors causing them to
This is because as soon as the war was over, Britain was left with a large debt. The British thought it was only appropriate to have the colonies help pay. As a result, the British imposed taxes. The colonies were just beginning to find a slight freedom in their ruling and felt as though they were equal to Britain. These taxes imposed a monarchical tyranny and created a segregation.
Most of the long term causes were caused by the inequalities with Great Britain’s colonies in America and Great Britain. British had gained France’s colonies in North america as a result of the french and Indian war and were seeking to take over the American colonies both politically and economically. The British did this in order to receive the respect that they desired as its governor. However the Americans did not want to allow the British to take control because they were abusing their power as governor to enforce laws.
Therefore, the reason that the actions of the colonists worked is because of the strain that the War had put on Britain’s
But, bigger problems were arising with time. For example, “Taxation without Representation,” that was one of the main reasons why the colonists rebelled against the British monarchy. Also, after the French and Indian War, the British needed revenue to pay for the cost of the war debts and to finance defense in North
By pursuing this methodology, Faragher details the reasons why the British crown felt justified in its actions and how those actions impacted the
Although the British proved to be triumphant in the war, they lost a lot of money and a lot of soldiers. During the course of the years, Britain wanted economic relief and turned to the colonies.
