Exploration
During the late 15th and early 16th centuries, people began to explore the worlds oceans like never before. They were in search of many things, trade, faster routes to Asia, and places to grow their crops. Christopher Columbus is obviously the most famous of these explorers, but there is another explorer who isn’t as famous but is just as important in the history of exploration; Ferdinand Magellan. He was very important in the progress of exploration. There were many things these men accomplished on their journeys, Columbus found an entirely new world that the easterners had no idea even existed. Albeit he was searching for a faster route to India but nonetheless he found

This is strange to most people because he sailed under the Spanish Flag. He did this because the King of Italy wouldn’t give Columbus the money he needed to find a faster and safer route to India. So, he went to talk to the King of Spain; King Ferdinand. King Ferdinand agreed to fund his exploration. He left Spain in August of 1492, he was on the Santa Maria, along side his ship was the Nina and the Pinta. He had three ships to make it across the ocean in search of India. He sailed for 36 days before he finally came upon the shores of the Bahamas. He met up with some friendly natives who began exchanging beads, cotton balls, parrots, and spears. The first thing Columbus noticed about these people were that they were wearing gold. …show more content…
Magellan circumnavigated the world, he showed people that the Earth was bigger than anyone could have imagined. He also showed those people that the world could be circled by the sea only. Not to mention he was also the first European to cross the largest ocean on Earth. He gave the scientists of this time something incredible to think about, just how large is this Earth we live on? He also mapped most of the Earth’s oceans so the people back in Europe would have an understanding of what it is like. (Szalay) Columbus had many accomplishments just like Magellan, but Columbus is much better known than Magellan. Columbus did the incredible; he found an entirely new world. He was able to give the people of Europe a new world to conquer, use to grow crops, and to trade with, and most importantly, he found gold. All the monarch’s of this time were excited to send their own explorers in search of this new world to find gold, spices, and new foods. However, Columbus died in 1506, just a few years after discovering the New World; he died believing that he found a new route to the East Indies.
Christopher columbus is worthy because he made a lasting impact on the world. One reason is he brought back crops and discovered them. Another reason is the population increased. The crops that columbus brought back were Tobacco, Cocoa, Coffee, Bananas, Rice, and Oranges. The way the population increased was he told europe about america.
Exploring the unknown? Receiving and conquering land to expand the power throughout the world? Christopher Columbus wasn’t like any other explorer. How was he different you may ask yourself and maybe question some things? How did he persuade Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand to help him fulfill the actions and other things to complete this task?
One of these accomplishments was introducing the Old World to the Americas while changing history, according to the Columbian Exchange packet. The Vikings did come to the Americas hundreds of years earlier, but they didn’t introduce all of the Old World to the Americas. Columbus, on the other hand, caused trade and interaction to occur between the two unfamiliar parts of the world. Another major accomplishment of Columbus was to be able to take several trips back and forth from Europe while bringing very precious materials, such as gold, back to Spain. Columbus did whatever he could to get his hands onto these items, and when he brought them to Spain, they had a great amount of value.
Christopher Columbus as we know is the historical person credited for the discovery of the New World. Zheng He was a Hui-Chinese mariner, explorer, diplomat and fleet admiral, who commanded voyages to Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and East Africa. Each men and their fleets had two completely different reason for their travel. Christopher Columbus purpose was to find a new trade way to the Asian countries. Zheng He's purpose was to enlarge empires control of seaway trade.
Who is Christopher Columbus? Some say he’s a hero, others say he’s a villain. Teachers tell their students that he sailed the ocean blue in 1492, and discovered the New World, but he lingers in history as a question mark and a mystery. He may have exposed the New World to the Old World, but many of his actions were unacceptable. Christopher Columbus was a villain who brought devastation and slaughter to the native population.
This expansion led to lasting impact on the world. Although he was originally trying to sail to Asia, Columbus’ discovery of the New World was exceptional because he was the only successful sailor to travel east across ocean with the courage to have the wind at his back instead of traveling west and securing a safe route home. By doing this, he also discovered a new trade route from Europe to North America. In the article, “Columbus- Hero or Villain?” by Felipe Fernández-Armesto, a historian at Oxford University, Armesto explains that the people of Europe “were brought together in a single network of communications, which exposed them to the perils and benefits of mutual contagion and exchange” (207).
Columbus changed the world because he introduced the Europeans to America. He also was one of the reasons that the United States, Mexico and Canada were founded. He started a new surge in exploration and inspired many people to go out on their own adventures and expeditions. Once people realized that the world was not flat they went out to explore places that had never been explored before.
Christopher Columbus is one of the most famous sailor that has crossed history books. He is a master navigator that opened the way for European Exploration. He is an Italian explorer who is known for sailing for Spain and discovering the Americas and colonizing them. One controversial question for historians is why the King and Queen of Spain would sponsor and fund an Italian explorer instead of a Spanish explorer. This is because Columbus is determined.
Some say Christopher Columbus was a hero because he was the explorer that discovered America. In reality, Christopher Columbus had an incredibly negative impact on the world because he enslaved the Native Americans, didn’t help the kind Natives when they got infected by diseases that the Spaniards had brought to America, and killed off most of the Native American population. The tactics he chose to use were violent and destructive by the standards back then and now. First, Columbus treated the Native Americans like uncivilized people by enslaving them and forcing them to work for him although they greeted him and his crew peacefully. ” They could make fine servants,”(document 2) he wrote in his journal,”I took them by force.
Christopher Columbus Hero or Villain ? Christopher Columbus is a Villain. On some accounts he can be a Hero. But on many other accounts he's a vicious Villain. Yes he discovered America ;
Christopher Columbus was one of the greatest explorers known to man. Columbus had many different reasons for his explorations. Later, the main reason for his explorations was selfishness. Just like many other explorers before Columbus, he wanted land, he wanted power, and he also wanted gold. The reason for his very first voyage to what he thought was India, but later was found out to be Central America, was to get land for Spain.
Eventually he was able to sail. He changed history by never giving up. If he had given up, we would not have everything that we have today, and people would not know about the new land until years or months after he found the land. In conclusion, I think that Christopher columbus is a hero.
Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue in fourteen hundred ninety-two. When one hears the name Christopher Columbus, they tend to think about his discovery of America. What they don’t consider is how his discovery changed and affected America. First of all, Columbus’ discovery provided the start of a long term colonization, which created what we know today as America. People, who immigrated from another country, traveled all over the world to make it to America in hopes of getting land in “The New World”.
Christopher Columbus is a man who is commonly depicted as a hero and great explorer who discovered our modern day America, but many of the so called “facts” are not all completely true as people would like to believe. Columbus was undoubtedly a courageous explorer who brought many new ideas, cultures, and resources to be exchanged between the New World and Europe. While this is true, it is not uncommon for people to forget the harmful effects brought along with the voyages made by Columbus and the darker details of his times in America. Columbus started from humble middle class family. Columbus was born in 1451 in the Republic of Genoa as the oldest of his four siblings.
Christopher Columbus, a Spanish captain who sailed to find new found land for the King and Queen of Spain. Columbus was a unique person in the middle Ages. Columbus was not born into the richest family but he was able to teach himself on how to sail and navigate the sea just by working on boats at a very young age. He was a man that worked very hard to earn the rank of captain of the seas, with this rank he became famous in European and American history and change the meaning of sailing. Christopher was born in the republic of Genoa, Italy on May 20, 1451.
