Darwin’s Theory of Evolution was published more than a hundred years ago and to this day it manages to cause controversy like no other. It states that all life on Earth has descended from a common ancestor. This fundamental concept, which is rigorously conducted, is supported by a prodigious amount of scientific evidence. On the contrary, creation ‘science’ is a branch of creationism that has no actual evidence. It claims that everything originates from God’s acts and creations. It is denominational, thus making it unconstitutional and inappropriate to be taught in schools.

It really is the same as teaching any other pseudoscience e.g. scientology, faith healing or astrology. School is an entrenched system to transmit knowledge, ethics and integrity to adolescents. Teachers educate us to become critical thinkers and self-sufficient. We learn foreign languages, to solve problems and analytical thinking skills. Evolution is a result of scientific practice, which obviously is anchored in problem solving and logical thinking whilst creationism does not accomplish teaching any of the aforementioned things.

We must realise that creationism is indeed theory; much like those of the Holocaust deniers and the global warming deniers. But the latter are not given nearly as much dedication as creationism is given in classrooms. Should one then argue that children deserve to know about the Holocaust distortion and denial in order to form an opinion on whether or not the abhorrent acts committed during the Second World War really did happen? No is the self-evident answer to that. Furthermore, the theory of Evolution is ¨merely¨ a belief, albeit one with ample more credence than any creation science there
