In the book, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, the whole utopia is taken over by a mass media where books are burnt if caught in your possession, they focused on entertainment, and violence is no big deal. When I think about the overall book, the world, censorship comes to mind. Everyone seems to be very obsessed with media because books are now not there to be able to entertain and give knowledge. Without knowledge, that whole utopia is madness.
Fahrenheit 451 takes place in a future society where they ban possession of books and reading and the job of firemen is to burn all books from people’s homes using the temperature of 451; the temperature that papers burn. After meeting a girl whom loves books, a fireman, Guy Motang, begins

In this society, books are considered evil because they make people question and think hence why firemen are there to burn books. Another reason why books are banned is because minority groups were offended by certain types of literature. As days went on, more and more people were getting offended so more and more books were being taken off shelves. Eventually, someone decided to have all books banned since they would be left with none either way. One last reason why banning books were decided is because the lack of knowledge enhanced from books enables ignorance and ignorance creates people who are easier to control than people with knowledge. Also, people stopped reading books gradually over time as the culture around them grew faster and shallower. For this reason, people with interests outside of technology and entertainment are viewed as strange to …show more content…
Clarisse mentioned to Montag that she was afraid of kids her age because they go out and kill people like it’s normal. She said six of her friends had been shot in the last year alone while ten of them died in car wrecks. On top of that, Clarisse herself was killed by a hit and run. This shows how lenient they could be about the law but for things that should not be lenient at all. The lenient law shows that unhappiness and fear is what they strive for in society. Besides that, firemen were able to burn people along with their books and house. For our society, firemen don’t cause the burning, they usually put out fires but firemen in this society makes the fire and intentionally harm people who refuse to light their books on fire. Once again, this shows that the society can be way too lenient. Furthermore, lots of people tend to die wether it is on accident or purpose. For example, The old woman burns herself to death, Clarisse dies from a hit and run, Montag killed Beatty with the flamethrower, Mechanical Dog killed an innocent person, etc. Also, Mildred attempted suicide using her sleeping pills yet no one ever seemed to have much of a care about it. Clearly, death for them was an everyday thing so it wasn’t anything to grieve or be upset over.
All in all, Fahrenheit 452 shows a theme of censorship where the whole utopia is taken over by a mass media where books are burnt if
Montag, the book’s main character, is a firemen himself. Society wants the books to be destroyed, because they thought that the books made people unhappy. In the book it says”today, thanks to them, you can stay happy all the time. ”(Bradbury pg.58) Another reason the books were outlawed, was because they were believed to be dangerous.
In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, the main idea [MM2] of the novel is censorship and its effects. What the readers learn is a future for what society may turn into, which is a world that seems quite possible given the way the world is today. Bradbury shows how the banning of books, and thus free thought, can have dramatic and disastrous effects on society. He emphasizes how the government controls how people think and feel. Censorship and the ban on books becomes so extensive and is due to political incorrectness, the increase in technology, and the unhappiness it brings.
"I was not predicting the future, I was trying to prevent it" (Bradbury). The world illustrated in Fahrenheit 451 isn 't that far off from our own. Technology has become a very influential part of everyone 's lives, and has control over people’s actions and thoughts. Ray Bradbury uses the themes mass media, conformity vs. individuality, and censorship in his dystopian novel, Fahrenheit 451, to capture a futuristic world in which books are illegal and technology is consuming society. Mass media is a significant theme throughout the book, Fahrenheit 451.
Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, is a uniquely shocking and provocative novel about a dystopian society set in a future where reading is outlawed, thinking is considered a sin, technology is at its prime, and human interaction is scarce. Through his main protagonist, Guy Montag, Bradbury brings attention to the dangers of a controlled society, and the problems that can arise from censorship. As a fireman, it is Guy's job to destroy books, and start fires rather than put them out. After meeting a series of unusual characters, a spark is ignited in Montag and he develops a desire for knowledge and a want to protect the books. Bradbury's novel teaches its readers how too much censorship and control can lead to further damage and the repetition of history’s mistakes through the use of symbolism, imagery, and motif.
Books can create portals to different life experiences and encourage reading. A few schools and libraries have challenged the educational value of some books, however, therefore leading them to eventually be prohibited in a particular place. Each reason may be different depending on the book and the location of the exclusions. Books are icons of literature and their value should outshine the occasionally offensive topic. Here is what Allison Flood has to say, “Books that fall outside the white, straight, abled mainstream are challenged more often than books that do not destabilize the status quo.” The Absolute True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie is one of the top 10 challenged books in the US.
Fahrenheit 451 has an astonishingly accurate future depiction of a society in which everyone is too distracted by technology, so they ignore most of the world around them. The community members are not aware of nature or other human beings, and they never take time to actually think deeply about life and ideas in general. Many high school and middle school teach this book in curriculums nationwide, because the addiction to technology and hatred of books portrayed in the book is beginning to be prevalent in our society. This book also glorifies individuality by admiring a girl who is different from everyone else. In the past, many parents have decided to challenge this book due to the violence, the religious discrimination, the foul language, and the references to drinking and smoking.

A simple book written with the best intentions; Ray brings to the world Fahrenheit 451 in 1953 (Kipen). Having World War II influencing Ray’s ideas for the book. Fahrenheit 451 brings ideas and points that Ray Bradbury felt the need to write and open the public’s eyes to, as to how technology is changing people’s lives and they are leaving behind books and their critical thinking. Ray Bradbury brings a book about censorship and how banning or in this case burning books does not keep people from the curiosity of the message books have. A big irony arises and his book becomes banned and censored, exactly the same way as in his book.
The world gets crueler everyday. There are new crimes being committed daily, and sometimes it can be because of what people are subjected to. In Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, this topic is discussed. In order to create a more positive environment, the world needs censorship.
