Garrett Morgan is an inventor and entrepreneur. His most recognizable invention being the traffic signal, he also created things like a revamped sewing machine and even a hair straightening product. One of Garrett’s inventions, a breathing device, is a huge blueprint for items today. Garrett Morgan being one of the only black inventors in 1923, made it easier for society today. The main inventors around 1923 like John Hardwood were white and didn't make it easier for people now.
Garrett Morgan was born in Paris, Kentucky on March 4, 1877. He had ten siblings, him being the seventh child. During Garretts mid teens he moved all the way to Cinicinnati, Ohio so he could try to find a job. Garrett did end up getting a job …show more content…

The traffic light has been the biggest and most honored invention of today, because of the large impact it had on us. In 1984, Garrett Morgan was awarded the first grand prize at the Second International Exposition of safety and sanitation for the gas mask he invented. He received a medal for bravery and Carnegie, during the Lake Erie disaster in 1916. He’s important for being one of the only black inventors in his time.
July 27, 1963 Garret Augustus Morgan died of a lingering illness. The Cleveland Clinic is where he passed. Throughout his life he lived in Kentucky and Cleveland only. Garrett Morgan was born in 1877 and lived eighty six years. Garrett Morgan said,”If you can be the best, then why not try to be the best.” (Garrett Morgan)
Garrett Morgan had struggles being one of the only black inventors of his time, because people wouldn’t buy from him because he was black. It’s funny how now when I look at a traffic light what comes to mind is that, I know who made that! Garrett is very impressive because of the many items he created.
