“Maybe ever’body in the whole damn world is scared of each other”. George and Lennie have been traveling together for all of their lives. George promised Lennie’s Aunt Clara before she died that he would take care Lennie. Although some people thought it was the wrong choice to shoot Lennie, George was protecting him from the awful mental institutions, inhumane prisons and the inexperienced health care system. George made the right choice by ending Lennie’s life because the conditions in mental institutions was inadequate in the 1930’s. Before 1960, they did nothing to protect human rights. The institutions did nothing to ensure that the patients got the care and attention needed. Lennie would have needed someone to look after him and he wouldn’t of gotten the right care and attention to help him. Overcrowding of the institutions, they had wooden …show more content…
He killed this man who gave no consent to be killed. Euthanasia is the intentional killing by act or ommision of a dependent human being for their benefit. Non-voluntary Euthanasia also was used on Lennie. This is when the person who is killed made no request and gave no consent. In most religions it’s forbidden to execute this action and they see it as shameful. So George killing Lennie is wrong in multiple ways. “God gives people life, so only god has the right to take it away”. This is invalid because he did do the right thing. They could’ve ran off and been fugitives but there lives would have never been the same. No matter what they wouldn't have the life they planned. It would've been harder to run, then to do what George did. George did the right thing. He knew Lennie wouldn't have a good life if he didnt do what he had to do . The mental institutions were terrible, The prisons are inhumane and the healthcare was extremely uneducated at the time with their skills and
Some people believe that killing another human being for the sake of “putting them out of their misery” is the right thing to do. They are wrong. The act of committing homicide cannot be reversed. He is taking away an indefinite amount of time from a person’s life : time that an individual might become stronger or even fully recover. That is why George should not have taken Lennie’s life away for the intention of saving his life.
However this is not right, the way Lennie die should be considered murder. Sure he did do some bad things at some times but he was clueless about everything he was doing. George should be brought to justice for Lennie's death.
While people think George made the wrong decision in the end. I personally think George made the right decision because he saved Lennie from knowing what was going to happen, George made it so Lennie went happy and quick without any suffering. I’m going to be talking about my reasoning on why I think he made the right decision for example George didn’t want Lennie to cause any more harm, the Lynch mob would’ve done worse to Lennie like torcher him, and George had no life his life was revolved around Lennie. My first reason is that George didn’t want Lennie to cause any more harm.
We also never get to see why that was the only option other than jail. Yes, Lennie did have a history with harming people as well as animals but George could have also just kept Lennie closer by his side
Lennie was always talking about living out his dreams tending rabbits on the ranch that George told him they were going to own one day, he had a goal to look forward to. George also did not try to explain to the other workers that Lennie had a disability and could not control what he was doing. George's murder was not justifiable because he was not in misery and wanted to live out his dream of tending the rabbits. Lennie’s murder was not justifiable. George did not give Lennie a chance to prove himself to the other workers and show how hard of a hard worker he is.
George and Lennie are a pair of boys who have spent a lot of time together and relying on each other. They’ve gone from town to town in search of a stable job to earn money for their dream. Lennie isn’t aware of his own strength which puts him in troublesome situations. After a particular incident, George Lennie would be better off if he was the one to put an end to his mishaps. If George had not killed Lennie, he would have been subject to a much worse fate.
Again, here we learnt that whether in a mental institution or in a jail, society during the Depression era would treat Lennie poorly, as if he were an animal. While George many have had more options today, in the 1930’s, during the setting of the book, George would have to determine whether to kill Lennie himself, the peaceful way, or to allow Curley to get to him first, the torturous
This save Lennie from a lot of pain, also helps george become free, and Lennie does not even know what is happening. George is justified because he makes the choice that protects Lennie from a lot of pain and makes himself feel guilty. The choice let's lennie die without guilt and pain. Lennie was also incapable of caring for himself. He counted on George for everything.
Another reason Lennie should not have been killed for what he did was because Lennie doesn't know his own strength. George should not have killed Lennie because he should of taught him that he is stronger, when the first accident happened in Weed. George should have taught Lennie how to control himself when he was little.
Others would argue that George’s decision in killing Lennie was unjust. George killing lennie went against man's law and also gods law “Exodus 20:13 King James Version (KJV) 13 Thou shalt not kill”. Even if it was wrong george was doing what he thought was best for his friend.
Lennie was unfortunately killed when he could have possibly lived a better life if George gave him the chance. Lennie should not have been killed because he could have potentially been a valuable asset, a good friend to keep company with, and a kind person at heart.
Some people might think in the opposite side that George should not killed Lennie because Lennie did not mean to anything. He has done it without knowing how strong of himself. Lennie made many troubles this might be because of his disability, but this is the reason that he deserves to live. He has done many thing that make George get into trouble and It is better if Lennie has to die because of George shoot him not the other. "All the time he coulda had such a good time if it was not for you” (Steinbeck).
In the novella, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, George’s decision to kill Lennie at the end of the novel was justified. George and Lennie were best friends, and have been since they were little. They got ran out of Weed(the old farm they used to work at) for harassing a girl and not letting her go. He was just scared from her screaming and kicking. He didn’t mean to harm, or scare her.
George killing Lennie is justified. Lennie was either gonna get killed by the other men or George. The other men were only doing it because they hated Lennie, George would have done it for the sake of Lennie’s safety and mental state. George would have felt guilty if he did not handle it himself. One reason George was justified in killing Lennie was that George had realized Lennie would never get better and their dream would never come true.
It is clear that George did not have the right to end Lennie 's life in such a selfish way. George always talks to Lennie about how fabulous they are when they are together at their own ranch and from day to day I end up with their life in a very cruel way. In conclusion, it can be said that George 's reasons for ending George 's life were enough to do so since Lennie was a very dependent person and could not stand alone. George tried to help him at all times as far as he could, but still Lennie was still in serious trouble, that 's precisely the reason why George wanted to prevent Lennie suffering in the future because he realized that he could not live alone.
