What Whale Poaching Really is By: Logan B I believe whale poaching should be outlawed around the world. Bans have warned people to stop hunting the whales but still over 2,000 whales are killed each year. In 1958, thirty eight thousand whales were killed since then, the amount of whales killed has dropped to thirty six thousand whales from that time.
Hunting has been a tradition for many years. There are both pros and cons of hunting. There are several actions that you can do right and wrong to keep the environment healthy when you are hunting. Hunting is still very controversial and whether it is supported or not depends on who you ask.
In the last couple of years, the issue regarding big game hunting has received more recognition since the killing of Cecil the lion in 2015. Despite the controversy concerning the use of legal paperwork by Walter Palmer, the individual who killed the lion, the killing of the exotic animal itself caused a major spark in the ethicality of trophy hunting. “The killing of Cecil the lion in Zimbabwe in July 2015 reignited the debate over big game hunting” (Big Game). When looking at big game hunting from an ethical point of view, it is more beneficial than opposers realize. There are many controversies surrounding the dispute of the legality involving big game hunting, most educated hunters know that big game hunting actually helps, not hurts, the
Every year hundreds of wild, exotic animals are killed, primarily in Africa, for money, bragging rights, and even decoration. Big game trophy hunting is a booming business, but has sparked a worldwide debate, especially after the killing of Cecil the Lion. Trophy hunters claim they are helping conservation efforts, but in reality, they are harming them. This sport is damaging the overall population of a species, especially lions, rhinos, and elephants. Also, the overall revenue from big game hunting is a small amount, and only a small percent of that goes to help the community. Although some countries have banned trophy hunting, they continue to allow “canned hunting” in which animals are bred to be hunted.Big game hunting takes a turn for the worse when it becomes canned hunting, or when it can be linked to poaching. People all over the world are voicing their opinion on the sport, legal or illegal. Big game trophy hunting is an unethical game, and this sport should be banned in more countries.

According to some, big game hunting is business for the wealthy, yet others believe it may actually provide benefits to the human, and animal population.
Looking at the outrage with Cecil the lion would make it logical to make poaching and general violence against animals illegal. That's a bit moral of a debate, and as someone who eats meat I feel a bit uncomfortable talking about ethics with animals, but I think killing animals for sport is wrong regardless of what goes on at
In addition, the detrimental wildlife issues that would emerge if hunting were no longer an option to keep animal populations under control would increase significantly. The idea of keeping hunting alive is crucial to keep our wildlife safe. Hunting may not apply to all people in the world, but it has to be done. In today’s world there is no other possible way to manage our wildlife in such an effective manner as we do it now. What people need to realize and accept is the fact that hunting does not harm the animals as severely as leaving them to overpopulate does.
Poaching is defined as illegally capturing, injuring, or killing an animal that is not on your land. The motive to commit this crime over the years has shifted from simply from individuals illegally hunting game to large organizations slaughtering animals to gain profit. Many are aware of this issue, but underestimate the sheer enormity of it. According to The Fish and Wildlife Service, there is an estimated $15-20 billion global market generated from poaching and trafficking of animals and their body parts. They have also reported that over 8,000 endangered species do not receive any federal protection.
“Hunting is not a sport. In a sport, both sides should know they are in the game.” (Paul Rodriguez) makes it least that animals are not aware of the fact that they are being hunted. According to Britannica.com, hunting was a necessity in early history. Early hunting for sport was for rulers and their nobles, those having the most leisure and wealth. Hunting is defined as the act of killing or taking down a creature. Killing is a synonym of murdering, and murdering is a crime. Some may say that hunting can provide food, which is a necessity for humans, or that is one way for them to make money. Despite these facts, some people are selfish enough to exceed their wants and hunt down animals for pleasure. That is why, sport hunting should be made illegal because hunting destroys animals ’wildlife habitats and hunting contributes to their extinction.
According to “Big Game Hunting Is Also Big Business, for Wealthy Few” by Liam Stackaug, "6 major pros and cons of hunting" from NLACTP.ORG, and "can trophy hunting actually help conservation?" By science magazine. Big game hunting is good because it provides economic aid to countries that allow big game hunting, and controls the population of certain species. However, big game hunting is an unpredictable activity that could hurt you. Although there are negatives to big game hunting, the benefits heavily outweigh the opposition.
Poaching and illegal hunting can cause an off set in the ecosystem by overhunting animals. When one animal population decline drastically, other organisms are affected too. The decline in native predators is the main cause for overpopulation of animals like deer. Deer overpopulation has led to rapid decrease vegetation life causing other animals to be put at risk. Removing predators from the food web disrupts the entire balance of an
People use the elephants tusks to make jewelry, and ornaments. China is a big consumer of elephant tusks. They banned this illegal poaching and let some of the elephant populations grow back. But some people still poached these animals which kept them in the endangered list. These animals have a protection program which bans people from poaching these animals.
The majority of the amount of animals that are killed in the wild are because of hunters. Humans usually kill these animals for accessories such as fur, meat, and other body parts. Creatures in the wild are almost always being hunted, whether it’s by a predator or a hunter. Law enforcers have tried to eliminate the amount of hunters by not allowing road building or hunting in certain areas. This definitely helped a lot, but still doesn’t fix the problem with predators.
Then there is another monitory value attached to it, the making of jewellery and other ornaments. Now the question rises, is it then acceptable based on these reasons for these societies to have access to Rhino horn? Human’s desires has led to the tragedy of commons. South Africa faces challenges in this regard such as high unemployment, corruption and inequality that is continuing to increase, all of which makes it somehow logical for these perpetrators to poach Rhinos of their horns, sell it and gain profit.
