I don’t believe that Rahim’s dying wish is unfair, Amir owes it to Hassan to rescue his son, Sohrab. In the beginning, Amir sees it as unfair, he would be risking his life and everything he gained in America, to rescue a boy he has never meet. “I have a wife in America, a home, a career, and a family. Kabul is a dangerous place, you know that, and you’d have me risk everything for…” (221). Amir believes that what Rahim is asking of him is too much, too much of a risk. Rahim believes that this action, will help amend the lies Amir said in his past. Rahim tells Amir, “ It has never been about money with money with me, you know that. And why you? I think we both know why is has to be you, don’t we?” (221). After, Rahim drops the bomb of Baba being
Amir is faced with a difficult task and he’s not willing to occupy. He use excuses, such as his life in San Francisco to make Rahim Khan understand that he can’t redeem himself. My reaction throughout the book is feeling entirely operated or manipulated. Reasons for my saying is the author's attempts at metaphor, symbolism, and foreshadowing are inelegant.
“Abraham was childless, but God (Allah) promised him a son and gave him this son. God tested Abraham's faith by ordering him to sacrifice his son. Just as Abraham was about to kill his son, the angel Gabriël told him to sacrifice a sheep instead. In gratitude of God's mercy on this human, the Muslims sacrifice one or more sheep every year” (animal freedom). In order for Amir to get what he wants he had to sacrifice Hassan.
Amir makes hassan look like a thief by “planting [his] new watch and a handful of Afghani bills under [the mattress]” (Hosseini 104). Hassan knew of Amirs intentions that Amir wanted him to leave so Hassan lies and says that he stole it in order to remain loyal with his friend Amir. Thus, Hassan and his father Ali, feel like they can no longer serve Baba or Amir anymore and leave forever; Amir never sees him again. It was then that Amir realized how much of a horrible person he was and how undeserving he was to have Hassan. His father realized it was him and forgave him even though his father said “theft is unforgivable.”
This is once again another attempt to relieve guilt from Amir’s life. Amir tries to become a good father figure for Sohrab. Amir’s father was rarely proud and happy for
The failure in Amir’s human nature is caring only for himself which leaves Amir to abandon the right decision, standing up to Assef even if it means suffering the same faith as Hassan. Amir, “ had one last chance to make a decision... I could step into that alley, stand up for Hassan--the way he'd stood up for me all those times in the past--and accept whatever would happen to me. Or I could run. In the end, I ran” (Hosseini 77).
He tries to redeem himself from what he did to Hassan. Amir doesn't know why he needs to go against, all he knows is that Rahim Khan needs him to come. ¨ I lay in the dark of the night Rahim Khan called and traced with my eyes the parallel silver lines on the wall made by the moonlight pouring through the blinds¨ (Hosseini 194). Amir's Moral ambiguity comes in when he decides to come back to Afghanistan. He decides to come so he can redeem himself from all the evil things he did while he was there.
To undo this guilt he does different actions in the positive way that show how his actions are now used for positive good deeds. Amir grows to become someone willing to die for Sohrab and believes Sohrab to be a part of his family which is ironic because Hassan was never able to become a part of their family due to social pressures. After Amir recognizes that Hassan knew all along Amir has a bigger feeling of guilt which is only washed away through constant deeds. One service is when Amir places the crumpled money for a positive outcome rather than to chase someone out, “ Earlier that morning, when I was certain no one was looking, I did something I had done twenty-six years earlier: I planted a fistful of crumpled money under a mattress ( 242) ”. As Amir grows as a character after ridding himself of different guilts he develops and grows by changing different actions that he has committed in the past as a sin.
On the hospital bed, Sohrab tells Amir that he is tired of everything, wants his previous life back, and that Amir should have just abandoned him to perish. Amir responds: “I can’t give you your old life back, I wish to God I could. But I can take you with me… You
He did something wrong but believes he has no way to make up for it. But, after fixing the table, Amir starts to realize that Rahim Khan was directing Amir to make up for his and Baba’s actions. “And with that came this realization: that Rahim Khan had summoned me here to atone not just for my sins but for Baba’s too.” (Hosseini 226) This realization is significant because Amir realizes that he can make up for everything.
He resists for Amir whom he loves with his whole heart. Amir witnesses this struggle, but he does nothing; he runs away since “he was just a Hazara, wasn’t he?” (Hosseini 77). Amir has always believed, deep down, that his father favored Hassan, a Hazara, the dirt of Afghan society, over him, his own son. Seeing Hassan reduced to that level of baseness is perversely satisfying for him.
He is the first person to read and praise Amir’s stories, something that has great impact on Amir. Through simple yet genuine remarks, Rahim is able to “encourage [Amir] to pursue writing [more] than any compliment” has done, indicating the value of his words in Amir’s eyes, and the strong bond that the two share (Hosseini 14). As Amir transitions into adulthood, Rahim’s role in the friendship shifts into someone who must push Amir to do what is best. He understands that the only way to convince Amir to go back to Afghanistan is through painful reminders of the past, demonstrated through telling Amir that “there is a way to be good again”, and by questioning Amir’s courage, accusing Amir of being a “man who can’t stand up to anything” (Hosseini 2, 233). In contrast, Rahim also exhibits a sense of tenderness and caring when needed.
Therefore I think Hassan knew he had let Amir know that he would always find a friend in Kabul. In doing that Hassan showed Amir that forgiving is important and never too late. The last character to influence Amir was Baba because he shaped Amir into the man he is. In the letter that Rahim Khan left for Amir when he arrived back in Pakistan in the hospital, he reads, “When he saw you , he saw himself.”
It is delineated by natural inclination that people sympathize with others who undergo an unfortunate circumstance or event. However, this type of behavior is dependent on how one uses prior knowledge to judge whether someone is worthy of sympathy. The idea that people tend to draw conclusions based on other people’s decisions and character remains as one of the many underlying themes in literature. In Khaled Hosseini’s novel, The Kite Runner, Amir’s character is considered worthy of sympathy by his redeeming actions towards the end of the novel, his good intentions toward Baba, and his ability to empathize with others.
Redemption in Family and Friends Holding a terrible truth that can lead to so much guilt can tear a person apart. Not only from themselves, but from others too. In the novel, The Kite Runner, there are many characters with many secrets that the others don’t know about. Two characters of many others are Amir and Rahim Khan.
The intensity of the conversation begins to rise when Rahim Khan told to Amir about Hassan and what he did before the Taliban killed him and his wife, leaving a kid orphan. However, the conversation reaches the intensity when Rahim Khan reveals to Amir the real
