The election I choose to write about was the election of 1800. The two main opponents were John Adams of the Federalist party, and Thomas Jefferson of the Democratic-Republican party (The Election of 1800). John Adams was running for re-election, and his vice president, Thomas Jefferson decided to run against him. The Federalist party had played a major role in our brief history as a country, as they helped ratify the Constitution (The Ratification Debate). The Federalists were pushing for more federal power, but the Democratic-Republican party was pushing for more power from the state government, which helped them gain a lot of support.
Silas Deane was born in the colony of Connecticut, the son of a blacksmith. He studied law at Yale and would later open his open practice. He gained political interest where he served on the Connecticut’s Committee of Correspondence and a delegate to the first and second Continental Congress. Following America’s independence, Deane was sent to France, by congress as the first American representative to purchase military supplies for the newly united colonies and to set up an alliance. While doing that, he was plagued with a controversy that surrounded his interest in private financial gain.

Even with the ideas of a split nation from Britain and becoming their own nation, these goals were still hard to achieve. Battles were fought, lives were lost, Treaties were signed, and Acts were put into place. With all of these ideas of America becoming a free country wasn’t easy to accomplish. The country you and I live in today is due to these delegates and members of the Continental Army for fighting for our freedom. The closer the government of the United States came to cutting ties with England, the more of a tax Britain was putting on our goods.
After the revolutionary war, the colonial people of the United States were in severe debt. According to the textbook Enduring Vision by Paul S. Boyer, et al. “The Massachusetts legislature, dominated by commercially minded elites, voted early in 1786 to pay off its revolutionary debt in three years” (Boyer, et al.). Many of the people, unable to pay within this timeframe were asked to pay their debts in “hard currency” (Boyer, et al.). With these high stakes, and with the inability to pay their debts, revolts broke out in protest of the common tax hikes of the period.
I believe that reading the classics is very important. Reading the classics can give us some insight into how they influenced people years later. The classics have influenced the founding fathers, science, and new writers with their ideas and views on the world and philosophy. If we stop reading the classics we would lose so much ranging from mundane to the extremely important.
Some of the most important people in the history of the United States are the founding fathers who founded this extravagant country. Alexander Hamilton happened to be one of those founding fathers. He is very well known in today’s time. You might have heard of him from the broadway show “Hamilton”. His legacy has been carried on from generation to generation and will continue to do so.

Guns and the Media It seems the media talks a lot about gun control and gun rights. The question is: Do they talk about it to stop violence or get rid of guns? In the past ten years the media has talked about guns a lot more than most of the other topics.
George Washington played an important role in the development of the United States. Washington was one of the founding fathers of the United States. In contemporary culture, famous figures such as politicians and celebrities usually don't deserve emulation. Often, they are corrupt, dishonest or haughty, but they are still worshiped as a hero. The true definition and description of a hero, according to World Book Dictionary, is an individual admired for his/her bravery, great deeds, or noble qualities. A hero is a person respected for his/her contribution to a particular field or cause. Throughout history, many people have exhibited these qualities.
John Jay was not the most loved of our Founding Fathers but his leadership in significant events did help lead to the writing of the Constitution. He was elected the president of the First and Second Continental Congress. Which indicates others were able to notice his excellent leadership skills. These congresses were important because they helped plan boycotts against the British, issued the Declaration of Independence ,put together the Continental Army and created the Articles of Confederation which were all necessary steps to get us to the writing of the Constitution. The fact that he was the head overseer of the arranging of all these things shows his prestige.
After the first shots were fired at Lexington and Concord, many people were indecisive about which side to support in the Revolutionary war. Delegates from the colonies came together to decide whether to break away from Great Britain or reconcile with them. The thirteen colonies were split into three groups, patriots, who supported breaking away from the English crown, loyalists, who supported the king, and undecided people. At the delegation people would give speeches advocating for both sides of the conflict, one of these people was Patrick Henry. Patrick Henry uses pathos, his audience's sense of patriotism, and ethos, calling Britain and its king a tyrant, in his speech to arouse support for the efforts of the patriots in breaking away from Great Britain.
