The origin of Thomas Edison’s call to change began when his mother started homeschooling him after he overheard his school teacher calling him addled. Edison’s family had a great impact on his career and achievements. Thomas Alva Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio to Samuel and Nancy Edison. (Henstra, p. 98) He was the 7th and last child the Edison family would have. Before he was born, three of his older siblings had already passed away.
He was the youngest of seven children. When he was young he got sick and couldn’t start school until he was eight. When he did start school, the schoolmaster thought he wasn 't smart enough so his mom took him out of school and taught him herself. When he was eleven he made his own laboratory in his basement and learned a lot from that too. Before he became an inventor, he worked for The Associated Press in Kentucky.
The realistic fiction short story “Charles”, written by Shirley Jackson, is from the perspective of a mother of a kindergartener. Her son, Laurie, has come home every day talking about a boy in his class named Charles. According to Laurie, Charles causes trouble everyday and is often punished. When Laurie is not talking about Charles, he is causing trouble. His parents think this misbehavior is because of Charles’s influence.

Julius Robert Oppenheimer was born on April 22, 1904, in New York City, to German Jewish immigrants parents, who were rich. Oppenheimer's father was a German immigrant and his job was importing textiles which he made a fortune doing, and his mother was an American-born painter who had studied in Paris.
This case study is about the effects of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) on 38 year old Sarah. Sarah is married and has two children aged 8 and 10. She was diagnosed with MS when she was at the young age of 33. The disease has progressed rapidly over the five years and she has needed help to support her everyday living. Sometimes she is experiencing fatigue, low mood, feels tearful and that she is a nuisance to everyone.

Edvard Munch Biography: Edvard Munch was born in Norway in 1863. He was very young when his mother died from tuberculosis, nine years later his sister Sophie died because of the same disease. The loss of his mother and sister affected his life and later his paintings. Another of his sisters spent most of her life institutionalized for mental illness, and his only brother died of pneumonia at age 30. He started studying engineering in 1879 at the age of 22, but left one year later to become an artist, his true passion.

I remember trying to ask questions about concepts I did not understand, but she would always say, “What don’t you understand?” This was a frustrating question because I was completely lost and didn’t understand anything about what we were working on. I changed schools for seventh grade and my math teacher tested me on the first day of school. My mom received a phone call from my very concerned math teacher. I had tested at a third grade math level entering the seventh grade. Looking back to those times, I felt very bad about my abilities in school.
