One reason why there shouldn’t be year round school is because kids need a break from school. Summer gives kids a break off their brains. A longer summer would let kids do what they want and time on there own. Lots of kids have to get up really early for school and so when it’s summer they can sleep in and make up for all of the time that they had to get up early for. They can’t make up all the days of getting up early in 2-3 weeks
Over the past twenty years, year-round schooling has grown by 544%, now around 10% of kids go to schools where there is year-round schooling (Statistic Brain). When students hear about year-round schooling, they automatically think about the summer break and that they won’t have that. They often forget about the many benefits that year-round schooling offers. There are plenty of reasons year-round schooling is better, it can solve overcrowding, the loss of information over summer break, better academic achievement during the school year, and many more. The school system was designed over a 100 years ago when parents needed their kids to work the fields in the summer. That is the only reason that we have a nine month school year and it’s not
Visualize the scene of an annual first day of summer barbecue, imagine the scent of wet grass and the sense of belonging felt upon gazing at people’s smiling visages. Now visualize summer camp, finally, after an entire year, seeing the friends that have been made over the years and hugging those friends as the rejoicing commences. Now imagine sitting crunched up in a tiny school desk listening to your algebra teacher drone on about quadratics and systems of inequalities. Day. After day. After day. Many districts in Florida have been debating whether or not to enforce year-round school. Year-round school should not be enforced because it will make finding childcare difficult for parents and kids will miss out on the joys of summer vacations and camps. Although it can be argued that year-round school may make it so children forget less of the material they learned because there are no long breaks, there is no proof of this so schools should continue with the traditional schedule.
I believe that school should start later to coincide with the natural sleep clocks that teenagers have for a few reasons. My first reason is that teenagers have to take in a lot of information each day, and so much of what is being taught cannot be remembered by the students if they are half-asleep for most of the day. Secondly, there are several studies that show students learn much better when they have had the amount of sleep that they need. An amazing example of this is myself. I have been getting less and less sleep lately, and as the amount of sleep I get on average deteriorates, I have noticed that I am less effective in school than I was last year when I was getting much more sleep. Overall, from personal experiences and those of
The first reason why kids should have summer break is that it is a stress reliever. According to Kathleen Blanchard et al., taking vacations can reduce stress. When letting off stress, kids can ease their mind and find easier solutions to problems. In addition, for the body to relax and repair itself, kids need time off (Blanchard et al.) As a student, summer vacations give him or her a way to relax and take a break off. As well as Blanchard et al. reports, by taking time off can help kids’ mental skills for when they get back into school. Aside from stress, taking a break or vacation can help with a kid’s physical health. Stress can cause many
Year round schools have many benefits. They go the amount of days that the district requires, but stretches it out through the whole year. You can go 3-4 weeks of school, then get 1-2 weeks off for a break. Depending on the school you go to and their set times. For summer break, you can have 4-5 weeks of the break, then go back to school after the last week. This helps us retain what we learned from school instead of losing it over 3 months of summer break. The 3 months of summer break requires your brain to focus on activities like basketball, video games, or swimming. 3 months of focusing can alter your brain and make you lose some of that information you learned over the school year. Not using that information we learned from school will make us forget some of it, if not used for a while. "BRAIN DRAIN: Students Lose Education during Summer Break." If we went year round, we would retain a lot of this information we learned. That is one of the several reasons schools should go year round.
The idea of year round school is starting to be more the topic of discussion. Many people are for the idea of year round education and many are against it. “If our country began on a year around schedule, it would have seemed bizarre to propose the summer- off schedule as a superior way to educate students” says Principle Hazel Colebank. Although some may feel year round school is great for bettering education, changing what’s considered normal could cause more harm than good. Year round school should not be used in today’s school, because it threatens family plans, teacher and student burnouts, and may become costly.
Firstly, A school year-round should be offered each year so students will not forget the learning. Many students that come back from their summer break most likely struggle on what they have learned, for instance, everyone ignores most of the subjects and methods that everyone discovered last year. Having a year-round school can allow students continually practice and build up their skills that will benefit them in the future. During the school, year-round the students will get
Students that are in school during the summer find it harder to concentrate on the work that they are doing in school because they are waiting to get out of school into the nice weather. Year round schools make it difficult to learn with many breaks that they are given which can affect them negatively in and out of school. Year round schools should give long breaks instead of many little breaks because it is shown that there is no difference in learning between year round schools and traditional schools.
My first reason for why kids should not give up their summer break is its American tradition to get out of school for the hot summer months. According to Racheal Stark, like adults in the 1830’s, children too worked in the fields for harvest because so many schools would have a break. It would give these the opportunity kids be able
To begin students under the current school schedule where there is one long break in the summer are more vulnerable to losing the information they have learned the past year. Summer break causes students to forget material that they have learned which causes problems because it wastes
(Weller 3). This is a problem because it takes away quality family time from students, which is essential for their well-being. Thirdly, a second benefit is that the year-round schooling system helps solve the problem of overcrowding. (Zubrzycki 1). Since all students wouldn 't be in school all at the same time, it eliminates the overcrowding problem. Finally, another drawback is that without summer break, there will be a financial toll. In a newspaper article titled “Year Round Schooling Explained”, it says, “Tourism and other industries that count on summer vacationers might suffer. High schoolers might be less able to get summer jobs.” This could end up causing a big financial problem for a lot of people. To conclude, the benefits and drawbacks of year-round schooling are about equal. Clearly, it is up to each individual to decide their viewpoint on this controversial
How much does summer vacation mean to you? That's the question many families ask themselves as they make the choice for year round schooling. With year round schooling students take several breaks, similar to a winter break in length, instead of one long break in the summer. Some people feel it is a terrible idea, while others say the academic aspect is superior. Although some people feel strong about year round schooling, year-round schooling is not the best educational option for students.
After every school year there is the summer holiday. Summer is probably the most exciting holiday of all for students because it comes after they finish school and is a huge holiday. Students can do anything and have nothing to worry about. People always seem to question if summer break is beneficial for students or not. Summer vacation is beneficial for students because it gives them a break from school, time for family, time to take courses and look for jobs. (Raisingsmallsouls)
The first reason why kids should not have summer break is because we need to catch up in school. According to Carolyn Mctighe, she reports that the rest of the world is way ahead of America in the academic world. Even though kids think they need a summer break that averages out to about 3 months, they don’t. Just think in those 3 months what kids could forget, almost half of the information he or she learned in school that year (Mctighe). Kids need summers to learn not to take vacation because most students forget what they learned. In addition, Mctighe reports that the U.S. is falling drastically behind in school. In addition, she reports China’s education is ahead of the U.S by a lot. School year round is not that bad, kids get just as much or even more days off in the summer. It is very hard to get back to the school mode after a 3-month break. The first weeks of school are often spent reviewing things that students forgot over the summer
