There are several borders I have surrounded myself with throughout my life that will continue to impact my actions in the future. I always strive to be the best I can be - inside the classroom, out on the field or court, or as a contributing member of my society. One of the many borders that I have set for myself is to always get top grades. Ever striving to be inside of this border has allowed me to push myself and reach my academic goals. I see this border as being a consistent part of my future learning experiences because I want to succeed in everything that I do. Going outside of this border would mean for me to put less than 100% effort into my studies and become unfocused on my classes and grades. Staying concentrated on my education helps me to challenge myself and achieve my ambitions. Another border that I have established for myself is to stay in shape. I am thankful to my family despite all that I’ve been through, because they’ve helped foster my ambition and motivation to succeed. Years of living in chaos and poverty inadvertently taught me the need to be solution oriented and the importance of good decision making. For instance, I made use of what I had available at home and school to complete school assignments. I also helped save money by taking advantage of free, online books and learning resources. Although it was often difficult to find reliable transportation, I found small ways to help those around me and make time for extracurricular activities.
The world, as well as ourselves, can become confident. I will encourage scholarship, leadership, and good citizenship with my school and community. With my hardwork, not only shall I benefit, but all that I help shall be benefited as well.

Conformism and pride are two concepts that clash greatly in society today, as people fight to maintain their own identity in the face of a world created upon factions. Both conformism and pride are explored in the short story “Borders” by Thomas King, which is about assimilation and the importance of maintaining identity in a bureaucratic, compartmentalized society. Through the protagonist and his mother, King uses point of view and characterization to create a distinction between the ideology and practicality of identity, ultimately leaving the reader to question the importance and worth of clinging to one's identity when faced with the borders of society. In order to explore the different opinions surrounding identity, King uses characterization
I have learned growing up to value my identity, values, faith, and family. Growing up I have learned to be proud of my Mexican heritage. Growing up as a Mexican-American, I have had the opportunity to grow in an environment where I am free and where I am enriched in my Mexican culture.

I have grown up learning that you give respect you get respect and I have learned to keep that mindset no matter what. We always made everything fun and kept it enjoyable like today it makes the day go faster and I have always thought it worked and lived by that. Growing up on the farm kept me realizing you never run out of things to do. If it's from tinkering to running around tearing things apart. It helped me learn and figure out how things work and don’t take it for granite.
This portfolio represents the professional and academical achievements of my educational career in the course over the years. It is the compilation of the hard work I have completed and my accomplishments that illustrate my strengths, problem-solving ability, work ethic, responsibility and moral and professional values. It has been a long journey since I started my nursing education becoming a CNA, nurse assistant, then a practical nurse LPN. Continuing with my education I became a registered nurse (RN) and now I am finishing my Bachelors of Science in Nursing.
High school has impacted my life in so many ways. High School taught me so many things, from personal relationships to creating a relationship with my education. As a freshman, I made a huge amount of mistakes and I regret doing foolish things, but I’ve realized, I was only maturing into the young adult I am today. Freshman year, I was out of focus and I was only trying to find myself. I would also prioritize other things and ignore my parent’s advice, where they would tell me to focus in school and give it my full attention.

As high school went on, the workload grew, but I also grew, so I was perfectly capable of keeping up with the work. This type of growth came rather easy to me. It was important for me to have one thing I could be confident with through all of the drama and chaos in my life. Growing in my community was not challenging thanks to the Live Algoma movement. Our community itself has experienced so much growth over the past four years, which allowed many students, including me, to grow in their community involvement as well.
