When Odysseus yells out his real name to the Cyclops, as Odysseus and his crew of men were trying to escape the cave of the Cyclops “Cyclops-if any man on the face of the earth should ask you who blinded you, shamed you so,-say Odysseus raider of cities” (Homer, 21) Odysseus can be rather arrogant at times. Odysseus did not want the credit of stabbing a Cyclops in the eye go to “Nobody”. So, he told Polyphemus his real name. Odysseus wanted everyone to that it was he who took down the mighty Cyclops. However, like many other heroes, they are not perfect all the time.
He does not care about his own life as long as he can conquer his enemy and win over the heart of the people. Shortly after he extinguishes the first monster, he then faced with an even more difficult task of killing that monster’s mother. When he gets to the Grendel’s mother’s hideout, “he leaped into the lake, would not wait for anyone’s” (570) This furthermore proves to us Beowulf’s bravery. He
As his mind is clouded by ambition, Thyestes does not think of his brother’s feelings and the repercussions of his crimes. His desire for rule has caused Thyestes to manipulate Atreus’ wife into helping him take down his brother. ‘My wife has he debauched, my kingdom stolen’ (1917, 222). As a result, Atreus turns evil to gain revenge and justice for his brother’s actions. The ‘evil in the ruler’ comes out of Atreus when he gains revenge by brutally murdering his brother’s two sons, cutting them up and serving them to Thyestes in an act of cannibalism and a form of sacrifice.
He sent a lot of soldiers to fight for the land that didn’t even worth it. Thousands of people are sending to death for no reason. Also, Hamlet killed Polonius with direct action. “Nah, I know not, is it the King?” (Shakespeare 81) This conveys that Hamlet’s original target is the King, but since he is not thinking through; he accidentally
He displays a heroic trait of fortitude, such as the event when he foresaw the approaching monster, Scylla. For every ship, the creature abducts six men to be devoured by its six heads. Furthermore, Odysseus showed to be undeniably brave in the battle against the hundred suitors Some believe Odysseus is not a hero because of his excessive arrogance. However, this claim is incorrect because Odysseus also shows kindness when he picked up three of his men and took them back to the ship because they were under the effects of the lotus flower (Homer 373). This action reveals Odysseus as being a compassionate hero because he obviously did not wish for his crewmates to stay behind with the rest of the Lotus Eaters with no chance of returning home, and even cared enough to carry all three full grown men on his
Alexander tortured many of his victims and then he killed them. Another reason why he was a villain because he killed members of his family so that he would become the ultimate successor to the throne. This should never be how a king becomes the ruler of his kingdom, ever. Even though I believe that Alexander the Great is a villain, others may think he was a hero. They may think that because he had conquered so many other nations.
He claims that Beowulf has lost the swimming competition between him and Breca. This affects Beowulf because his reputation is vital to him. Beowulf fires back with a reminder that Unferth killed his own kin. “[...] and the forthright Unferth, admired by all for his mind and courage, although under a cloud for killing his brothers, reclined near the king” (1164-1167). To prove himself, Beowulf informs the King Hrothgar of his new expedition, killing Grendel.
Odysseus once again becomes the Hero in Disguise while trying to escape from the Cyclops. “My name is Nohbdy: mother, father, and friends, everyone calls me Nohbdy” (961). Odysseus tells the Cyclops his name is Nohbdy so when he later stabs the Cyclops, the Cyclops will scream that Nohbdy is stabbing him. This aids Odysseus and his men because it lets them escape since no other Cyclopes came in and tried to stop him. Odysseus becomes the Hero in Disguise because he saved himself and his men.
After Hamlet’s father was murdered, he was seek to revenge his father’s killer; but the real question here is who is the real killer, and why did he kill his father? Hamlet received a message from his father, returning in a ghost form, King Hamlet is calling upon his son to seek revenge on his brother Claudius. Claudius murdered his own brother, and seized the throne to become a King just like Hamlet. Claudius loved the power that his brother had, and he wanted the same opportunity and gifts just like him and to be the king of Denmark. Figuring out how Hamlet and Laertes is a liked and disliked is a 50/50 situation; most of the play they are similar.
That doesn’t matter to him, he feels as if he will do better. Macbeth begin to feel as if the bonds and relationships were fake, so he turned against the people who supported him with little to no regret. He was solely focused on this motive of becoming king and gaining as much power as he can. For example, he ended up killing his best friend Banquo and almost killed Banquo’s son. This was all to try and prevent them from fulfilling the second part of the prophecy, Banquo’s descendants becoming king.
“Rikki-tikki tavi” by Rudyard kipling Rikki- tikki tavi had a right to be proud of himself because he was going to defeat karit, nag, and nagaina the one who saved his family was a very brave and sneaky. When Zachry’s father and brother were attacked by the Kona, Zachry lied to his fellow Valleymen and said that the Kona had attacked them when he wasn’t there so that he would not look like a coward for not intervening and saving his family. This lie led Zachry to believed that his soul was “half-stoned”, meaning that his chances of being reincarnated as a Valleyman were reduced because he acted like a savage, against Sonmi’s wishes. Zachry did not kill Meronym when Old Georgie tempted him because if he committed murder, he would be going against Sonmi and would be reincarnated as a savage Kona, the worst reincarnation for a Valleyman. The remainder of Zachry’s decisions after lying about the Kona attack were based around proving to Sonmi that he was worthy of being reincarnated as a Valleyman. Sonmi influenced Zachry to do good in life out of his fear of his soul being stoned and him ending up as a Kona in his next life.
When the suitors plan to kill Odysseus son, Telemachas, Odysseus speaks up to his men, “Friends, have we never been in danger before this? More fearsome, is it now, then when we faced the Cyclops.” Odysseus displays all the characters. In the chapter “Scylla and Charybdis” Odysseus and his men were frightened that Scylla and Charybdis would either beat them or eat them. He had to be a strong leader and convince his men that they needed to be brave. Odysseus put

This proves Macbeth has finally lost his cool know killing anyone in his way to try to stay in high power. Another good reason is because Macbeth doesn’t want to lose to Macduff and trying to get to him. He is willing to give away precious gold just to kill Moby Dick to get revenge for his absent leg. He went to extremes and put his crew in ample amount of danger for the gigantic white whale’s death, just for his own wrath. Ahab has a whole crew to help him with his vengeance on Moby Dick. He makes absolutely insane decisions to force his crew into danger they should not have been in. Because of this in their final spotting of Moby Dick every crewmember dies except Ishmael, just because of Ahab’s decisions to chase the large whale instead of killing many whales for profit.
